About Me
I want to tutor because of my interlinked love for mathematics and teaching. Throughout the last three years of high school, I developed a passion for teaching my peers; be it through formal in-school leadership positions or simply helping a friend stuck on a problem, I grew to cherish the eureka moment of my classmates finally understanding an answer. I was able to exercise this passion through the different roles I took on in school.
For instance, having founded the ‘Everyday Economics’ Club at my school, I taught grade nine to grade 11 students through weekly sessions that reflected on the practicality of theory taught in class. In addition to this, another other position I held that made a lasting impact on me and my passion for teaching was ‘Head of Teaching’ at my high school’s Debate Society. With this, I organized bi-weekly sessions for younger kids aged from 12-16.
The ability to effectively communicate, along with a growing appetite for creative teaching, are the learnings I most enjoyed from my experience with teaching debate. Feeling the need to extend my love for teaching, I proposed and successfully implemented a ‘Head of Training’ role at the Model United Nations Team at school.
These all may be small examples of instances where I have had experience with teaching young people, but I believe the more important principle lies in my desire for not only spreading knowledge and sharing the moment of satisfaction when an unsolved problem is answered, but also my love for mathematics and giving back the knowledge I have come to obtain from my own great teachers.
