I've been teaching children, teenagers, and adults for nine years. I'll be completing my Master's degree in Music Education (at the Zurich University of the Arts) in June 2022.

About the lesson

I have enjoyed violin lessons from world-renowned professors such as Grigory Zhislin, Pavel Vernikov and Ilya Gringolts for the last 20 years. It is important to me to share my experiences with you. My lessons are completely adapted to your needs and your level. After the first assessment, we will define personal goals and a plan will be drawn up together. I focus on the basics of playing the violin (posture/bowing technique), but of course the joy of making music is in the foreground. Whether you are preparing for a competition, for an entrance exam, or you have had long plans to delve into the world of the violin - everyone is welcome! As a concert violinist, I find it important to be on stage and play for an audience. I organize a master class (we play for each other) and a concert up to twice a year where my students can demonstrate their knowledge to an audience. I teach in German, English and Russian.

TEENAGERS
Are you looking for a piano teacher who will encourage and support your teenager's passion for music? Thanks to a hybrid method book for older beginners that contains pedagogically and age appropriate piano pieces, technical exercises, and supplementary activities, students are able to play hands together from the very first day, unlikely to traditional methods. In case of a former experience in playing the piano, I build on their existing knowledge and continue to expand their skills and creativity. I am also open to student's suggestions, I believe that playing a piece they enjoy is effective in keeping them motivated.

ADULTS
It's never too late to pick up a new skill. As an adult, you have unique advantages over children when it comes to learning music. You have greater focus, a better grasp of music theory, and a strong motivation to succeed.

As well as instrumental teaching and ensemble coaching of at all levels over the last 12 years, I’ve led numerous professional workshops, including ‘Music First’ and ‘Music Masters’ workshops in London and was an assistant on the Primary Arpeggione viola course and at the Springgrove music competition. As a member of the European String Teachers’ Association, I participated in their conferences across Europe.

I have prepared students for music exams at all levels, working with them on music theory, aural and sight reading skills, and regularly accompany students on the piano.

Toby is an outstanding instructor and works with children very naturally. My 11 year old son has been taking lessons with Toby for over two months and is eager for each lesson. Toby is extremely talented, but beyond that, he engages my son deeply with the music itself, fundamental techniques, music theory, and even the interpretation of the music. Toby is kind, encouraging, and works with students at a level that is appropriate. He has allowed my son to chose music that if fun and interesting to practice, even though the pieces are challenging. In fact, I often sit in to listen to the lessons, as they are so good. I’m a violinist trained at the Conservatorio “Luca Marenzio” in Brescia, where I completed a traditional 10-year diploma in violin performance in 2016. I gained extensive experience as a concert musician, playing as first violin in distinguished orchestras and baroque ensembles.

Alongside the violin, I also teach piano. I studied piano as a complementary instrument during my conservatory studies and have continued to cultivate it for many years, focusing mainly on Russian late-Romantic repertoire.

In my teaching, I place strong emphasis on solid fundamentals and the development of musical curiosity from the very first lessons.
