About Me
I have spent most of my working life in the manufacturing industry, from becoming an apprentice draughtsman at Rolls Royce Aero division in 1979; to running, owning, and directing various companies up until I retired; well semi-retired in May 2020 aged 56.
I have always loved mathematics and found it invaluable throughout my career. In 2007 I took a five-year break from manufacturing and amongst other things I became a lecturer at the City of Bristol College, where I predominantly taught Functional Skills Mathematics from entry level 2 and 3, and levels 1 and 2. I was also a private tutor teaching GCSE and AS level Maths during this period.
I love teaching mathematics. The main reason I returned to manufacturing in 2012 was purely financial. I also found upon returning to the manufacturing sector after the five year break that my experience as a teacher had helped me to become a better manager.
Now that I'm semi-retired, I wish to return to teaching/tutoring mathematics. Mainly because it feels like I would be giving something back to society, and I consider I have a lot of practical experience to help young people (and older people) with their issues with mathematics, and to help them to understand how important mathematics is and how relevant it can be to their chosen career, or helping with your day to day life.
