GCSE and IGCSE Chemistry
Tuition covers teaching and revising theoretical and practical aspects of the exam specification.
Electronic resources, practice exam questions and video clips to consolidate the development of practical skills are covered in lessons.

I base my tutoring on the student's needs, developing their prior knowledge, building confidence in their learning and problem solving skills whilst developing exam technique.

At the moment all tuition is at my home or is online using Skype or Zoom for audio and a video link. I use an interactive whiteboard that permits PDF/Power Point slides and electronic documents to be used during lessons. A PDF of all the pages is downloaded for students to help them with note taking and as for revision in the future. Additional help sheets and practice questions can be supplied to help with developing learning and exam technique.

I develop the student's learning experience at school and provide additional resources and practice questions. My students are encouraged to develop their knowledge and an appreciation of what examiners require by developing their assessment for learning skills.

I enjoy tutoring and my students have all benefited enormously from individualised support in preparation for their examinations. Tutees enjoy their tutorial style lessons which are normally 1 hour in duration, but longer times can be arranged if required.

Group tuition can be arranged and a sliding scale for the tuition fee will be applied depending on the number of students involved.
Extra information
A laptop or desktop computer should be used with Chrome as the Web browser.
The interactive whiteboard pages are downloaded as a PDF so you will have a record of the lesson for future reference.

About Me
I have extensive teaching experience in schools as a Science teacher, specialising in Chemistry, and at university as a lecturer in Organic Chemistry. I am a member of the Tutors Association.

I have a BSc (Hons.) degree and PhD in Chemistry. I have taught Science as a fully qualified teacher for secondary school education since 2006 and am a qualified Higher Education lecturer. I enjoy tutoring and my students have all benefited enormously from individualised support in preparation for their examinations.

At A Level I have taught the entire Chemistry course, my students have taken the AQA, Edexcel and OCR and both the Edexcel and Cmbridge International A level Chemistry examinations and achieved the highest grades. I have helped student prepare for Oxbridge interviews through extension lessons beyond the A level specification, and coached students for technical interviews.
Education
BSc (Hons) Chemistry University of Exetwe
PhD Chemistry University of Southampton
tHE University of Wales, Bangor (Qualified teacher status for teaching in Higher Education)
QTS - GTP Science Teacher
Experience / Qualifications
I am qualified to teach in Higher Education as well as from KS3 to KS5 as a Teacher of Science specialising in Chemistry at A Level. I have more than 15 years’ experience teaching KS3 and KS4 with more than 20 years’ experience teaching A level chemistry including 8 years online tuition.

Over the last fifteen years I have established a successful private teaching business, both face-to-face and on-line, offering private tuition to students preparing for exams at the following levels: Common Entrance, GCSE, AS, A Level, IB and undergraduate degrees. I am an examination marker for Pearson Edexcel for more than 6 years. I have completed over 2500 hours online tuition in the past three years. Since 2024 I have taught A level Chemistry in a hybrid model with online theory and face-to-face practical and theory lessons using the Google Classroom platform for online teaching as well as IGCSE sciences in a virtual school.

Extending students to ensure that they master the full exam specification as well as being able to deal with material beyond the boundaries of their formal exam specification has been a feature of my teaching and tuition to help the most able students prepare for UK Chemistry Olympiads and the Cambridge C3L6 challenge.

A highly professional individual, I have been responsible for student learning as a teacher and their welfare as a form tutor, motivated by helping every student achieve their full potential in both schools and universities. I have experience of teaching students across the whole ability range, in the state and independent sectors as well as chemistry and ancillary chemistry undergraduate students.

I have acted as a Practical Endorsement Visiting Monitor to assess the replacement to coursework in the A level specification in schools and colleges for six years.

Tuition develops students’ prior knowledge and skills to help them become confident learners. Lessons consolidate on learning in school, develop good exam technique and ensure that learning is both enjoyable and challenging. A full range of resources are available to support the tuition and extension work can be provided and feedback provided to support learning between tuition sessions.

I've completed my GCSEs a little over a year ago , I'm on here to fund myself in the future (primarily university) .
I've averaged above an A (above grade 7) overall with recent experience and am still attending sixth form . Because of this I'll be able to easily relate to and figure out the needs of my tutee as I was in their position not too long ago .
I myself studied based on topic rather than necessarily textbooks , this means that I can make due with any textbook or other material (this accounts for difference in exam boards).
I can teach a concept from the ground up , or to solidify knowledge on topics as well as teach the basic principles for understanding the topic in the first place . I'm especially good at understanding and taking advantage of mark schemes to maximise grades , despite if the topic is completely unbeknownst to you . Though this seems minor , this tactic means you'll almost never score zero marks on a question . Ergo : if you can do half of the questions on a 100 mark test you'll get around 50 marks (high C to low B grade , grade 5 to 6) however even without understanding the rest it's easy to get at least another 15 marks up to around 25 (you usually cannot get over half marks without getting close to the answer , which is why half the remaining marks is a typical maximum) putting your grade up to to a minimum of a strong B or a maximum of a solid A (min of a grade 6 and max of grade 8) all of which requires minimal work which you won't forget . In English a similar thing can be done with punctuation , so long as you use a type of punctuation once ; you can score easy additional marks and get more marks on other criteria due to the examiner's bias . This is my forté .

Certainly! Chemistry and biology are two fundamental scientific disciplines that are closely intertwined and play a crucial role in the education of students.

From a chemistry perspective, students will delve into the study of matter, its properties, and the interactions that occur at the atomic and molecular level. They will learn about the periodic table of elements, chemical bonding, reaction kinetics, and thermodynamics. These concepts form the foundation for understanding the behavior of substances and the driving forces behind chemical processes. Students will engage in hands-on experiments, simulations, and problem-solving activities to apply their knowledge and develop their analytical thinking skills.

In the realm of biology, students will explore the intricate and fascinating world of living organisms. They will study the structure and function of cells, the diversity of life, the mechanisms of evolution, and the complex systems that sustain living beings. Topics such as genetics, ecology, and physiology will be covered, allowing students to understand the fundamental principles that govern the living world.

The integration of chemistry and biology in the curriculum is crucial, as these disciplines often intersect and complement each other. For instance, students will learn about the chemical processes underlying biological phenomena, such as photosynthesis, cellular respiration, and the structure and function of biomolecules like proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids.

Through engaging lectures, interactive laboratories, and problem-based learning activities, students will develop a deep understanding of the scientific principles that govern the natural world. They will hone their critical thinking, problem-solving, and experimental design skills, preparing them for further studies in science-related fields or a wide range of career paths.

The synergy between chemistry and biology provides students with a holistic perspective on the natural sciences, enabling them to appreciate the complexity and interconnectedness of the living and non-living components of our world. This knowledge will empower them to make informed decisions, contribute to scientific advancements, and tackle the challenges facing our society.
