About Me
ABOUT ME

Ciao! I’m Alessio, 'The Tuscan Tutor', born and raised in the picturesque hills of Tuscany. For the first 23 years of my life, Italy was my home, but I now live in the UK. Being immersed in two cultures has not only enriched my life but also my teaching. It’s given me the unique ability to understand and bridge the differences between Italian and English.

My love for languages began early. At school, I studied English, French, German, Latin, and Italian, a foundation that shaped my understanding of how languages work. My passion for grammar comes from a wonderful primary school teacher who showed me its importance in mastering Romance languages like Italian. Grammar may seem tricky at first, but together, we’ll make it manageable—even enjoyable!

Beyond teaching, I’m also a historian and archaeologist. With a BA in Ancient History from the University of Pisa and an MA from UCL, I’ve given lectures, published a book, and designed cultural courses to share Italy’s fascinating past. My deep appreciation for Italy’s history and culture will enhance your learning experience and deepen your connection to the language. Whether we’re discussing verb conjugations or Renaissance art, my goal is to make every lesson meaningful and engaging.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY & METHOD

In 2017, I began teaching private lessons in Italian, Latin, and French. During the pandemic, I formalised my practice with a PGCE qualification, learning innovative strategies for online teaching. My commitment to excellence means I continually refine my methods, drawing from the latest research and tailoring my approach to suit every student.

Here is a summary of the main features of my teaching method and philosophy:

- Personalised Lessons
One-on-one classes ensure that every session is tailored just for you. Whether you learn quickly or prefer to take your time, we’ll go at your pace. Together, we’ll explore readings, listening activities, grammar exercises, and plenty of lively conversation. Every lesson is designed to fit seamlessly into your life, making learning Italian an enjoyable part of your routine.

- Clear Grammar Explanations
Grammar doesn’t have to be daunting! I believe that understanding the structure of a language builds confidence. To ensure clarity, I’ll use dual coding techniques—a mix of visuals like colour coding and clear, concise explanations—to help you grasp even the trickiest concepts. We’ll break down complex ideas into manageable steps, ensuring you feel confident and supported every step of the way.

- Guided Practice
You won’t face grammar or vocabulary challenges alone. We’ll work through examples together, gradually building your confidence. Mistakes are part of the process, and we’ll learn from them in a supportive environment. With plenty of practice and encouragement, you’ll develop the skills you need to use Italian independently and confidently.

- Active Participation
I’ll ask you questions designed to help you think critically and strengthen your memory. My approach encourages you to reach answers on your own, guiding you step by step towards a deeper understanding. This interactive style keeps lessons engaging and ensures that every concept truly sticks.

- Revisiting and Reinforcing
Learning doesn’t end when the lesson does. We’ll regularly revisit past material to make sure it stays fresh in your mind. Consistent practice is key to mastering a language! By integrating revision into each session, you’ll feel more confident with each lesson and see steady progress over time.
