This English literature class is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the most important works of literature written in English. Throughout the course, students will engage with a wide range of texts, from classic works of Shakespeare and Chaucer to contemporary novels and poems. Through close readings and discussions, students will explore the themes, styles, and historical contexts of each text, and develop their critical thinking and analytical skills.
In addition to reading and analysing literary texts, students will also learn about the major literary movements and historical periods that have shaped the English literary tradition, from the Renaissance to postmodernism. Through lectures, readings, and discussions, students will gain a deeper understanding of the cultural, social, and political forces that have influenced the development of literature in English.
Throughout the course, students will be encouraged to engage in active reading and critical thinking, and to develop their writing skills through a variety of assignments and projects. By the end of the course, students will have a broad knowledge of the English literary canon, and will have developed the skills necessary to engage with literature at a sophisticated level.
