Piano is the perfect instrument for lockdown. It allows you to enter a personal world of creativity, emotion and focus - a world of discovery that is both rewarding and fun. With 88 keys a piano can play be a whole orchestra of parts, it can play chords, basslines, melody, harmony and counterpoint all together. It the ultimate vehicle in which to explore the landscape of music. The ultimate key to unlocking music's secrets.

My courses are tailor-made to suit the ambitions of my students. Whether you want to write songs, learn to read music, pass exams, learn theory, learn to improvise or just learn to play your favourite tunes, I am here to help and guide you to wherever you wish to be.

I have over 15 years of teaching experience at all levels and in all styles - classical, jazz, rock, pop, country, blues, folk and I have taught people of all abilities and ages in schools, colleges, peripatetically, at home abroad and online.

About Me

My aim in teaching music is to help a person to realise their own unique and specific potential: to become the musician that is waiting inside them. This means it is vital to teach what the student wants to learn and not what the teacher wants to force upon them. There are so many directions you can go in on the piano - those 88 keys contain infinite possibilities and infinite ways to express yourself, your tastes, your personality and your feelings. To help someone traverse their own musical journey and discover their path is very satisfying. It also means that I end up learning from them too, as I learn new styles and tastes and ways of thinking.

I am a graduated piano teacher at the Conservatory of Lausanne (Switzerland).
I love the music and I have a passion for my instrument and for teaching as well.
I could teach you or your child, from the basic steps to the intermediate one. I have an experience in teaching in Switzerland and would be please to teach you how to practice the instrument and to learn to love it!

Classically trained to Grade 8 on the Piano and regularly working with artists in a Recording Studio environment, I'm offering exciting lessons in Piano, Music Production and Composition for ages 11+. **Enhanced DBS Certificate**

Each component can be taught separately (e.g you may simply be interested in Piano lessons) or I can provide a complete course which takes students from an introduction to Piano through to Production and eventually being able to Compose, Produce and Release their own music.

Whichever you choose, the emphasis is on fun lessons which provide practical skills equipping students in the real world.

- Piano is taught on an upright acoustic
- Music Production is taught using Pro Tools (The industry standard), Native Instruments and a MIDI controller keyboard
- Students are also able to record vocals within their projects if they wish

Due to my label and agency ownership, I am also able to provide insight into the Music industry including areas such as Music for TV, Film and Advertising which may be useful for GCSE/A-Level Music students.

My life is all about music and creativity. I'm a proudly self-taught multi-instrumentalist and an eternal student.

EARLY CAREER
I worked in London as a session musician and touring drummer and pianist for more than 10 years with Shaw Thing Artist Management. I played with talent including Joy Crookes at much-loved places such as The Roundhouse, Abbey Road and The Edinburgh Festival. I also worked as a private tutor during this time, helping 50+ children and adults learn drums, piano and bass - many of whom got all the way to Grade 8.

TODAY
In 2022 I moved to Brighton for a new musical chapter. I now work as a composer/sound designer and creative director for award-winning artistic projects and brands including premium travel company Kuoni. I’m my happiest when I’m creating and making things happen, co-ordinating talented teams to get the job done.

I also offer a transcription service, delivering detailed scores which I create by ear. You can check out examples of my transcriptions on my YouTube channel.

Finally, I am an examiner for Rock School & Yamaha, assessing students across a range of popular instruments, and continue to teach one-to-one in-person and online.

PROJECTS & AWARDS
I am the producer of a short film titled When We Fell, featuring an original soundtrack released under my artist name Spoon. In 2021-22 it was presented at festivals worldwide, won three awards and was nominated for the Audience Award by the prestigious British Animation Awards.

I have also released a video game that music-lovers will enjoy called Keep The Music Alive, a retro 2D platform game that follows the creative journey of a composer - and features beautiful Contemporary Jazz/Classical tracks.

QUALIFICATIONS
I have a BMus in Music Performance & Production from the London Centre of Contemporary Music (LCCM) and am currently studying an MSc in Music and Sound for Film and Games at the University of Hertfordshire.

I teach the drum kit, piano, theory and composition. I love sharing my passion with my students, supporting and empowering them to become the best they can be. I’m big on inspiring my students to continue progressing between lessons, independently, focussing on technical ability, stylistic understanding and the development of their own musical voice.

If you choose to take graded examinations, I have a strong track record of getting students high marks. I’m an examiner myself, so I know exactly how to prepare you. Grades 6-8 practical / theory give you UCAS points equivalent to A levels, and grades 5-6 are regarded as equivalent to GCSE level. It’s a great way to stand out when applying to schools and universities.

I teach children and adults 1-to-1 from my home in Brighton, at students’ homes and online. Students coming to me benefit from access to industry standard equipment and software - invaluable experience for any aspiring, modern musician. I hold an Advanced DBS Certificate and have many testimonials and references (upon request).

I have a PA system and play an electric violin for weddings and functions playing pop or classical music. I have also taken a year's course in introduction to Music Therapy which was a very interesting course and am currently studying for Certificate for Music Educators.
