ON-LINE! Block flutes in C & F, soprano, alto, tenor and bass in the bass clef,

We offer block flute lessons for adults and children.
The block flute is not only the traditional entry-level instrument, but a full member of the woodwind instrument family. Composers of the 16th and 17th centuries have written well-known works for the soprano flute. In the late 17th and 18th century. the alto flute was "the" instrument for composers like Bach, Haendel, Vivaldi and many more.
For the "easy" entry into the world of music with little fingers, the soprano flute is ideal, adults can start immediately with the larger alto flute (in F, but don't panic, that's "normal").
For adults who would like to stick to the C-flute, but find the soprano "too small", the tenor offers a wonderful deep and warm tone.
Many alto flute players will sooner or later develop an interest in the bass flute. It has a deep, mysterious, deep sound. Unfortunately, many players then rely on the fact that the bass part is / will be transferred into the treble clef, as they cannot read the bass clef. For these players we offer bass clef reading as a workshop.
We offer another workshop "Celtic playing on the block flute", in which we show, explain and work out the differences between traditional and Celtic playing styles with the student / participant.

About Me
I am a musician by training, have lived and worked on and off in Great Britain for 45 years, and have over 35 years of experience teaching music and languages. I studied piano and conducting, with recorder, ocarina, tin whistle and other keyboard instruments as minor subjects, as well as musicology.
My particular interest lies in "forgotten" composers of the 19th century and the American organ (treadle organ/harmonium).
My teaching method depends on the knowledge level and expectations of my pupils and students.
Currently, my focus is on adults who want to expand their knowledge online. I teach in German and English. I am also happy to take on older children and teenagers from about 12 years old.
Education
Graduated from high school in 1983, studied at the Detmold University of Music in 1985, founded our own publishing house in 1991, taught at schools, colleges and as a private tutor. Regular concert appearances since the late 1970s, as a soloist or accompanist.
Experience / Qualifications
I passed my O-Levels in London in 1979, then graduated from high school in 1983 with advanced courses in German and English, then studied music at the HfM Detmold. Since my school days I have performed regularly, been successful in competitions and have taught. I also sent my own students to competitions and prepared many of them for the entrance exams to various universities. I am married to a British musician (French horn, ocarina, flute, all flutes and composition). After living in London in the 1990s, we moved to Wales in 2008. We live with our two children in one of the most beautiful parts of Wales, the "Valleys". Here we work out our own concert programs, research and publish our own grades and teach. My "hobby" is Irish and Celtic music, with which I also make buske = street music. We are happy about contacts to Germany and think that online teaching has a great future.

We offer online lessons via Zoom for adults and older children (from approx. 12/13 years) for well-known and not so well-known instruments like ocarina (known from "Zelda"), the Irish / Celtic tin whistle, or the clarineau, also often called saxonet or children's clarinet. With the block flutes we offer all instruments from soprano to bass. In the field of keyboard instruments, we offer keyboard / piano and harmonium / pedal organ.
We are musicians by nature and are happy to convey music in addition to our concert activities.

The tongue drum has generated a lot of interest in recent years; more and more adults are discovering its calming sounds, especially for meditation, pranayama breathing techniques, or relaxation.
Together with Tibetan singing bowls, a spherical experience is created.

For children, the tongue drum with only 8 tongues, each with a color code, is ideal for a carefree introduction to making music at an early age. Fun without pressure!

As an experienced music teacher, I offer recorder and music theory lessons for children and adults of all ages and skill levels!

Originally from Brazil, I have been teaching music for several years. A graduate of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, I have extensive experience as a music teacher, having given private lessons and taught in music academies in Belgium and elsewhere. I develop a unique method for each student so that they can learn in a solid and enjoyable way.

The recorder is an easy instrument to learn, making it a great opportunity for children to begin their musical journey. It provides an initial introduction to musical notation and helps develop their ear. I offer students a fun and dynamic learning experience, where music is made from the very first lesson.

For adults... If you're a beginner, don't worry!
I will teach you how to produce the first sounds on your new instrument, how to blow correctly, how to adopt a good posture, etc. I will help you build, step by step, a solid basic technique that will allow you to play any piece on the flute.

If you are an advanced student or already possess a solid foundation in your instrument, I propose working on refining your technique, taking into account each repertoire. We will explore creativity and sound to produce an increasingly beautiful and eloquent musical expression.

Lessons can take place at the student's home or the teacher's home in Forest. Travel expenses are negotiable depending on the distance.

Feel free to contact me to discover this magnificent instrument!

HOW WE HELP STOP STOP SPREADING THE VIRUS.

Have you always wanted to develop your music talent? This is your chance.
I'm from a musical family. As a girl I quickly learned to play the autodidact recorder. Piano and guitar were added at a slightly later age. At a young age music had become one of my passions. Later, after my teacher training, I could not resist further music education.
Music is not only my passion, but is also a way for me to communicate with each other. If you don't know how this is possible, you can learn it.
My experiences as a teacher and musician were and are still linked to each other. I have gained extensive experience as a music teacher and all-round musician in various fields, such as conducting choirs, drawing up and disseminating curricula for schools, giving musical notes and learning instruments (recorder, keyboard / piano, guitar).

Xiao & Dizi Lessons with a Performer, Teacher and Sound Designer

I'm a xiao and dizi player, teacher and sound designer based in Taiwan, with over 20 years of teaching experience. I lived and studied in France, so I know how to explain this music clearly to students who didn't grow up with it, in English or French.

With my background in sound design and acoustics, I can help you understand why your tone is airy or unstable, or why you run out of breath, and how to fix it, not just "practice more."

The dizi has a clear, bright tone, used in traditional music, theater, folk melodies and film and game soundtracks. The xiao has a deeper, more intimate sound, ideal for slow melodies, lyrical phrasing and meditative music.

WHO IT'S FOR
- Complete beginners
- Wind players who want to explore a new instrument and sound world
- Fans of Chinese dramas, period games and East Asian culture
- Anyone drawn to meditative, lyrical music

WHAT WE WORK ON
- Posture, basic technique, breath, tone production and sound control
- Dizi membrane: how to paste and adjust it
- Ornamentation, phrasing and expressive details
- Numbered notation (jianpu) and/or staff notation
- Listening to and understanding the style behind the music

DIRECTORY (EXAMPLES)
- Dizi: 《牧民新歌》 Mu Min Xin Ge (New Song of the Herdsmen) · 《喜相逢》 Xi Xiang Feng (Happy Reunion) · 《姑蘇行》 Gu Su (Flight of the Partridge)
- Xiao: 《妝台秋思》 Zhuang Tai Qiu Si (Autumn Thoughts at the Dressing Table) · 《梅花三弄》 Mei Hua San Nong (Three Variations on Plum Blossom)
- Beginner favorite: 《茉莉花》 Mo Li Hua (Jasmine Flower)
- Taiwanese and Hakka folk melodies
- Themes from dramas and games, or pieces of your choice

ARRANGEMENTS ON REQUEST
Have a piece in mind that isn't in the usual repertoire? I can adapt it to your request, write out the score (numbered or staff notation) and teach it to you. For example, I have adapted music from a Chinese period drama.

YOUR FIRST LESSON
You'll learn to hold the instrument properly, produce a clear sound, and hear what good breath support feels like. You'll leave with a short melody and a simple practice plan.

AFTER FOUR LESSONS
You'll play stable, clean notes across the first octave, perform a short folk melody, use one or two basic ornaments, read basic notation and understand how the dizi membrane works. (On xiao, which takes longer to sound reliably, the goal is steady notes and a slow phrase.) Students with wind experience often move faster.

FLUTES FROM TAIWAN
Good bamboo flutes are hard to find outside Asia, and quality varies widely. I can choose a flute for you in Taiwan and ship it to you. We'll decide the key and budget together based on your level and how you want to use it.

SCHEDULING
I'm in Taiwan (UTC+8) and can teach at almost any hour with advance booking. Tell me what works in your local time. Typical slots:
- Europe: weekend mornings to early afternoon, and weekends. Evenings on request.
- US & Canada, East Coast: weekend evenings and weekend mornings.
- US & Canada, West Coast: weekend evenings and weekend afternoons.
- Asia & Oceania: almost any time.

Lessons are online, in English or French. New students: send me a message with your goals and your local time zone, and we'll set up your first lesson.

Xiao and dizi lessons with an interpreter, teacher, and sound designer

I am a xiao and dizi player, teacher and sound designer, based in Taiwan, with over 20 years of teaching experience. I lived and studied in France: I can therefore explain this music to students who did not grow up with it, in French or English.

Thanks to my training in sound design and acoustics, I help you understand why your sound is hissy or unstable, or why you lack breath, and how to remedy it, beyond simply "you need to work harder".

The dizi has a clear, bright timbre, used in traditional music, theater, folk melodies, and film and game soundtracks. The xiao has a deeper, more intimate sound, ideal for slow melodies, lyrical phrasing, and meditative repertoires.

FOR WHO ?
- Complete beginners
- Wind instrumentalists who wish to discover a new instrument and a new sound world
- Passionate about Chinese dramas, period games, and East Asian culture
- Anyone drawn to meditative and lyrical music

WHAT WE WORK ON
- Posture, basic technique, breath control, sound production and control
- Dizi membrane: gluing and adjustment
- Ornamentation, phrasing and expressive details
- Numerical notation (jianpu) and/or range
- Listening to and understanding musical style

DIRECTORY (EXAMPLES)
- Dizi: 《牧民新歌》 Mu Min (Flight of the partridge)
- Xiao: 《妝台秋思》 Zhuang Tai Qiu Si (Autumn Thoughts at the Dressing Table) · 《梅花三弄》 Mei Hua San Nong (Three Variations on the Plum Blossom)
- To begin: 《茉莉花》 Mo Li Hua (Jasmine flower)
- Taiwanese and Hakka folk melodies
- Themes from dramas and games, or pieces of your choice

ARRANGEMENTS UPON REQUEST
Do you have a piece in mind that isn't part of the usual repertoire? I can adapt it to your request, write the score (in musical notation or staff), and teach it to you. For example, I've already adapted music from a period Chinese drama.

YOUR FIRST LESSON
You will learn how to hold the instrument correctly, produce a clear sound, and develop a feel for good breath support. You will leave with a short melody and a simple practice plan.

AFTER FOUR LESSONS
You will play steady, clean notes in the first register, a short folk melody, with one or two basic ornaments. You will be able to read simple notation and understand the role of the dizi's membrane. (In the xiao, which takes longer to master, the goal is to achieve steady notes and a slow phrase.) Students with prior experience on wind instruments often progress more quickly.

FLUTES FROM TAIWAN
Good bamboo flutes are hard to find outside of Asia, and the quality varies greatly. I can select a flute for you in Taiwan and ship it to you. We will determine the key and budget together, based on your skill level and intended use.

HOURS
I am in Taiwan (UTC+8) and can teach almost any time, with advance booking. Let me know what works best for you in your local time. Typical times are:
- Europe: weekdays from morning to early afternoon, and weekends. Evenings on request.

- United States and Canada, West Coast: weekday evenings and weekend afternoons.
- Asia and Oceania: almost at any time.

Online courses, in French or English. New students: send me a message with your goals and time zone, and we'll arrange your first lesson.

Hello dear flute fans, modern and historical :-)
For me, music is not just sound, but also expression, connection, and a lifelong learning process. Teaching is fulfilling because I get to witness how music opens doors, builds self-confidence, and unleashes creativity. Every student has their own story, their own pace, and individual goals – this makes the lessons lively and unique. I give my best, am patient, curious, and always open to my students. It is simply a gift to be part of this journey and to discover the language of music together with my students. I teach modern flute, transverse flute, and recorder.

Have you ever looked at your clarinet and thought, "I should play more often..." — then scrolled instead? Perfect, Music Wednesdays are for you! What's that?!? Two short monthly get-togethers, stress-free, judgment-free... but with music.
The concept is simple:
We meet for 45 minutes, and we really play.
30 minutes of guided practice (inspired by the “winners’ routine”, with a drum machine and a broken-down style)
A little improvisation to unleash creativity, tame your emotions, and maybe discover that you're better than you thought.
A moment to ask your questions: a passage you're stuck on, a study, a method... let's talk about it

The prerequisites (note: very demanding):
An instrument (ideally a clarinet, but we're open to suggestions)
Ears (preferably sharp ones)
Attention (yes, you'll have to turn off notifications... hang in there!!)

When ?
The first Wednesday of the month, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., then the third Wednesday of the month similarly from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.

Objective: to progress without getting bored, to play at a relaxed pace, and to leave with the desire to play again.
If your clarinet is starting to gather dust or if you're simply looking for a nice place to practice... sign up!!
(I promise, no one will ask you to play the Mozart Concerto in the first session... well, unless you insist.)

See you soon !

CURRENTLY, ALL CLASSES ARE RUN ON-LINE IVM CORONA VIRUS.

My lessons are individualized - for children, teenagers and adults, beginners and advanced students.

Additionally, jazz, klezmer and pop.

I place great emphasis on good breathing technique, body awareness, embouchure, and musicality. At the same time, I value fun and enjoyment in making music – using creative methods and mental practice.
