About Me

I am a freelance dancer, teacher, choreographer and mentor. I am currently developing and performing 'Suzy Homemaker' an ACE funded (3 times now) solo show. Our current stage of the work is a pilot tour and projecting forward; our fourth stage will be a national tour of the work. During my time as a professional dancer I have worked with Opera North, Black Box Dance Company in Denmark, Jana Bitterová, Mercurial Dance, The Hexagon Collective, Constella OperaBallet, Tina Tarpgaard, Jason Mabana, Marie Brolin-Tani, Steph Giles, Dionysia Bouzioti, Joseph Reay-Reid, Northern Dance, Lila Naruse, Jacob Stage, Melody Putu, Alexander Michael, Balbir Singh Dance Company and Gerry Turvey to name a few. I have also produced and directed multiple works at the University of Sheffield where I am a resident artist and I am lucky enough to have movement direction experience in shows across West Yorkshire.
Teaching wise I have been fortunate to teach in multiple HE institutions and Conservatoires in England, Denmark and Sweden. I have taught extensively at Leeds City College, Leeds University, Danstalentakademi (Conservatoire in Denmark) and guest taught at many other schools in Yorkshire.

At Leeds City College I worked with young adults and children on the spectrum that have learning disabilities. I have also facilitated workshops with disabled adults and their carers in art galleries centered around movement and exploration that respond to the art work. I have choreographed multi-award winning solos, duets, trios and group numbers in ballet, contemporary, neo-classical and musical theatre jazz styles. I primarily teach contemporary (Graham, Cunningham, Release, Limon and Floorwork), Ballet, Pointe work, Repertoire and Neo-Classical.

Education

I trained at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance where I received a First Class Hons Degree and the Carolyn Woolridge Prize for highest performance marks. I also gained a Distinction in an MA in Contemporary Dance at NSCD. Prior to this I completed the Foundation Course at NSCD with a Distinction.

Holder of a Bachelor's degree in contemporary dance and creation of multidisciplinary performances from the Iceland University of the Arts, a Master 2 in Art Research & International Creation from the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, I am an artist member of the International Dance Council at UNESCO.
Since 2020, I have been engaged in academic research on medical and spiritual dance whose practice is called Transcendental Dance (Transcendental Embodiment).

My professional experience extends internationally where I had the opportunity to work alongside various renowned companies and to organize internships in France, Iceland, Sweden, Mexico, Czech Republic, Spain, Turkey and Asia. Also, I had the opportunity to dance for haute couture houses during Fashion Week in Paris.

I teach contemporary dance, technical floorwork (floor work), contact dance and classical dance. My classes focus on mindfulness, musicality, harmonization of energy flows, improvisation, muscle strengthening and coaching in choreographic composition for competitions, exams, galas, and weddings.

Classes, choreography and staging! in person or virtually

Are you going home and want to do something special? Let's do it together, whether it's a dance, a performance, or whatever you want—alone, with your partner, family, bridesmaids, or whoever you want. There are two options: I'll teach you how to dance the genre you're going to dance plus the choreography, or I'll just teach you the choreography. It's up to you.

The classes are aimed at the assimilation of technical elements with a biomechanical approach, focusing on the development of appropriate mechanics based on muscle chains and joint release. Knowledge of the objectives of the class sequences with a methodology broken down into the steps, theoretical and practical, will allow a more conscious execution in the long term, preventing short-term injuries. The importance of identifying body strengths and weaknesses individually, to program an exercise plan and overcome technical challenges in the development of a ballet class. Coordination, agility, resistance, stability, flexibility and proprioception will be objectives within reach during classes!

Dancing has always been part of my life. During my childhood, I took classical and jazz lessons. Later, I joined a group of Funk (Hip Hop/RnB) with which I presented several choreographies and shows.

In 2010, I discovered zumba and salsa. Since then, I have a passion for salsa and Cuban music. Since 2017, I have been part of a dance school where I pass on my passion to a group of people of all ages, dancers or not at heart.
