As a chess teacher of 14 years, and as a player of 32 years, I love to impart the things I have learned about chess and be able to help people reach their goals. I’m very passionate about chess and feel it be a wonderful activity, not only fun, but to help develop creativity, patience, concentration, find friendships, and personal growth.

In our lessons we will go over the fundamentals of the game, with focus on middlegame typical positions and endgame, with a particular emphasis on the games you play between lessons. Openings will be suggested in line with your current strength and those which will provide the chance to obtain your best results.

Hi!

I love to develop working relationships with students and to help the, reach their goals with tailored lessons which aim to challenge someone at the edge of their comfort zone to obtain the best results.

I have studied to doctorate level within chemistry, a discipline which I believe cultivates some of the same skills that translate to chess. Working within chemistry develops patience, resilience, focus, pattern recognition, all things that are necessary to play good chess. I have developed my own playing by working with my own mentors, including a grandmaster, and these experiences I bring to the time I work with a student.

I am often said to be very approachable and provide a warm, welcoming , calm atmosphere for us to learn together. Lessons will be tailored to a level that provides just enough of a challenge to ensure progress is made.

. I use teaching techniques I myself have cultivated over the years of coaching, together with those discussed in ‘make it stick’, a seminal book on how to learn effectively.

I am a qualified and experienced mathematics tutor. Graduated from the Free University of Brussels in 2011, I started my career by teaching remedial courses in different schools in Brussels. I then specialized in individual academic support by following educational training at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. I have been giving private mathematics lessons daily for over ten years.

The students who follow my private lessons benefit from personalized support. The first session is devoted to an in-depth assessment of the student's mathematical knowledge. I am a Latvian Candidate Master with an international FIDE rating of 2059 and an English Chess Federation rating of 2120, and an online rating of 2400, reflecting a strong competitive level. I particularly excel in blitz and rapid formats. My greatest competitive achievement is winning 1st place at the English Open Women & Girls Rapid Championship in 2019.
