Each class is limited to 3 students, all with the same aim and roughly at the same language level. Lessons are supportive, immersive and fun. The student does not have any responsibility to revise or learn. All the responsibility is mine. I teach English in a way that allows you to use the language in our small group and to see your progress immediately. I focus on making you feel confident and happy to use the English language in whatever situation you chose. The classes can focus on basic conversational English, business English, English for tourism, English for University application (TOEFL etc), advanced conversation, syntax and pronunciation. Classes and times are organised by demand. Do not hesitate to email me with any question.

About Me

Hi, my name is Duncan. I have been a teacher of English for 30 years. I am 57 years old and I love teaching, especially small groups or one-to-one with students who are motivated to learn. As well as an MA Degree in English Literature from Glasgow University I have additional qualifications in Special Educational Needs. Over the last 25 years I have developed methods and strategies for teaching English to people who struggle with language acquisition - through dyslexia, having a different first language or who struggle to read. Through my Masters in SEN I discovered that I have Dyslexia myself, and the struggles and strategies that are part of my life have become a very effective tool in understanding and helping many, many, many students. I am extremely popular in the school I teach in and have a very successful track record in tutoring English from Junior level up to University level. I am now looking to expand my experience by taking on small groups of students from a Chinese background and creating highly effective small classes where students feel supported, have lots of fun with the language and see their progress immediately. My teaching of English is heavily influenced by the Michel Thomas Method and immersive strategies in general. For many students, I use magazine, newspaper and film as ways to access English in an easy and entertaining way. This strategy has been highly successful, especially for students who face barriers to learning.
