English Tuition Sessions - Language GCSE/ Functional Skills, IB Diploma or A-Level Literature/ Language and Literature
From 20.54 £ /h
I’m a qualified English teacher with 10+ years of experience from the UK, who moved to Stockholm last month. I majored in English Literature at university and had a year studying Linguistics alongside this, so I’ve studied and taught a variety of subjects within the broader umbrella of ‘English’. I don’t know Swedish, but for face-to-face lessons I can help students with English homework, with any writing, and offer conversation to improve their speaking.
Over 10 years I’ve taught 14-18 year-olds, and 19+ adults who had English as a second language, so I’ve experience of teaching a wide variety of skill levels and types of students. For online teaching, I can teach UK students for their GCSEs or even A-Levels. I have a lot of experience working with students with Special Educational Needs, so I excel at tailoring learning to meet the needs of students, whatever their academic ability.
I make my lessons interactive and engaging in subject matter, with a strict focus on achieving specific aims based on exam criteria. Language is a skill which needs practice, so all lessons include speaking & listening, reading & writing, with time to reflect, correct and improve being of paramount importance.
Lessons are 1-2 hours, to enable time for assessment, feedback and implementation of feedback.
I will work with any student aged 11+. I can teach with a focus on preparation for a specific exam series, e.g. IB Diploma Literature/Language and Literature; I can help develop a particular skills area such as creative writing or speaking in academic presentations; I can offer help with homework and understanding set texts or quirks of the language; I can even build skills in higher-level punctuation, grammar, editing and proofreading. As shown in my varied career path, I am flexible and will work with students to adapt lesson resources and teaching methods to meet their needs.

About Me
I’m a qualified English teacher with 10+ years of experience from the UK, who moved to Stockholm last month. I majored in English Literature at university and had a year studying Linguistics alongside this, so I've studied and taught a variety of subjects within the broader umbrella of 'English'. I don't know Swedish, but for face-to-face lessons I can help students with English homework, with any writing, & offer conversation to improve their speaking. Over 10 years I’ve taught 14-18 year-olds, and 19+ adults who had English as a second language, so I've experience of teaching a wide variety of skill levels and types of students. For online teaching, I can teach UK students for their GCSEs or even A-Levels. I have a lot of experience working with students with Special Educational Needs, so I excel at tailoring learning to meet the needs of students, whatever their academic ability.
I make my lessons interactive and engaging in subject matter; a lesson that is fun to take part in with interesting subject matter will always result in more focus from students, which in turn will accelerate your learning! My lessons nonetheless have a strict focus on achieving specific aims based on exam or other performance criteria. Language is a skill which needs practice, so all lessons include speaking & listening, reading & writing, with time to reflect, correct and improve being of paramount importance. Lessons are usually 1-2 hours, to enable time for assessment, feedback and implementation of feedback. However, I understand that many students have busy schedules, so we can adapt timings to suit you as necessary.
I am passionate about Language and Literature, as the former gives you the keys to express yourself fully and the latter is a prism that can help you see the world (or even yourself!) with new eyes.
I am committed to education for all students, as not only do I find it personally rewarding to know that I'm helping others, but also I strongly believe that through education we raise understanding and thereby build confidence & agency in young people.
I have high standards for my students, reflected by high standards for myself as a teacher. I know that working together with students to find learning methods which work for them is what makes the difference in the student-teacher relationship, and it's that relationship which is the most critical foundation when building towards success.
