I am a professional flautist and passionate music educator, currently studying at Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama. I hold a Diploma with Distinction from the ARSM and have been won in several prestigious national and international competitions, including Galway flute festival, British Flute society competition for three years. I have graduated from London Symphony Orchestra. I love playing and creating music, and I am dedicated to helping others to discover the joy of flute. He also plays as a member of the contemporary music groups Korvat Auki and the Nyky Ensemble. His main musical interests at the moment are the collaborations with living composers, chamber music with different ensembles, and interdisciplinary improvisation. Diogo performances have taken place in many venues such as the Philharmonie of Essen, OrchesterZentrum Dortmund, Music Center Helsinki, Turku Castle, Liceu Auditorium Barcelona, Casa da Música do Porto, and many more. Diogo's recognition includes prizes in some international competitions and the recent recognition at the 2022 Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy competition for Contemporary Ensembles and the recent participation at the prestigious Josip Nochta Competition in Zagreb, Croatia. Diogo teaches all saxophones and ensemble playing in Portuguese, Spanish, English and German.

I have played the flute for more than 20 years, and have been teaching since 2011. I offer flute lessons to children aged 8 and up, and adults at all levels from beginners to post Grade 8. I also teach recorder to younger beginners- I find this is a good stepping stone for younger children as it's more comfortable for smaller beginners to hold, and easier to make a sound on. Learn to pass exams or just for fun- many of my students achieve highly in ABRSM and Trinity grades, but some prefer not to take exams and this is fine too. Whatever your level, one to one tuition means that I can tailor my teaching to your needs as a flute player, and my teaching takes into account the reasons you learn an instrument, encompassing a wide variety of repertoire. I also teach music theory- lots of students come to me to help prepare for Grade 5 theory, and I also teach higher theory grades.

With beginner saxophone students, we will first work on proper instrument holding and posture. Then, before blowing into the saxophone, we will practice long-tone exercises using the mouthpiece. Once comfortable with these fundamentals, we will start producing sound from the instrument and learning the notes. We will focus on long-tone exercises to develop control and consistency. We gradually start incorporating short exercises or simple melodies as the student progresses.
