Online sessions are held using Muse Sessions, which allows us to listen, view, and interact with your music software in real time.

My approach is fully tailored to your goals. Sessions typically focus on finishing tracks, developing ideas, improving arrangement and mixdowns, sound design, and building a more confident and efficient creative workflow.

We’ll work directly with your own music wherever possible, using it as the basis for focused, practical progress. We can also analyse and deconstruct released tracks that inspire you, breaking down structure, sound choices, and production techniques so you can apply them to your own work.

Alongside this, I’m happy to share insight from my own projects and releases, offering perspective on creative decision-making, workflow, and long-term development as an artist. For those interested in sound design, sessions can cover synthesis, samplers, effects, routing, modular and practical ways to get the most out of the tools you already use, whether software or hardware.

I also offer guidance on the wider industry side of music, including preparing music for release, getting signed, developing an artistic identity, self-releasing, content creation, and composing for film and TV.

These sessions are best suited to committed beginners through to intermediate producers who want clear feedback, direction, and momentum in their work.

About Me

Hello, I’m Matt — a full-time music producer, mentor, and mix engineer with over 17 years of professional experience.

Alongside my own artist projects (Dark Sky / Benyayer), I’ve released multiple records internationally, including two studio albums on Modeselektor’s Monkeytown Records, and EPs on labels such as Ninja Tune, 50 Weapons, Tectonic, Last Night On Earth, Mister Saturday Night, and others. My work has received extensive radio support and has accumulated over 25 million streams across digital platforms.

I’ve also officially remixed artists including Kelis, The xx, Bombay Bicycle Club, and Glass Animals, and collaborated with a wide range of artists across electronic and experimental music.

As a live performer and DJ, I’ve toured internationally for many years, playing venues and festivals such as Berghain, Panorama Bar, Fabric, Glastonbury, Sonar, Mutek, Dimensions, Corsica Studios, Phonox, Village Underground, and more. Alongside artist work, I have extensive experience composing and producing music for film, television, theatre, and library use. Past clients include O2, GoPro, Pioneer, Oculus Rift, Nokia, Lucozade, The Louvre, Burberry, and Amnesty International.

Technically, I work primarily in Ableton Live and have deep experience with synthesis, sampling, audio recording, processing, and hybrid hardware/software workflows.

Alongside my professional work, I’ve spent the past several years mentoring producers 1:1, helping them finish music, develop a strong artistic identity, and gain confidence in their creative and technical decisions.

I hold a Distinction in Fine Art (4D) from Central Saint Martins, with a focus on installation and time-based media, a background that strongly informs my approach to sound design, composition, and creative production.

Ableton Live is the new standard for electronic music. Its very easy to learn and with only a couple of lessons you will be able to start making your own music! Used by almost all EDM, House, Deep House and even Pop artists it is the must-have tool in the new decade. In our classes we will go over making beats, basic music theory, song-writing techniques and production techniques including advanced sound design with synthesizers. If requested, we can also move on to mixing to make your tracks sound just like what you hear on the radio.

Logic Pro is a powerful digital audio workstation (DAW) widely used for music production, recording, and sound design. In this introductory lesson, we will cover the basics of setting up a project, navigating the interface, and creating simple tracks.

We will start by setting up a project, adding Software Instrument and Audio tracks, and exploring Apple Loops for quick access to pre-made sounds. We'll also learn to record basic MIDI and audio, perform simple edits, and balance their mix using volume and panning. Almost all music today is made using computers—whether it's composed, recorded, or edited with music software. It has never been easier to create music yourself, requiring very little equipment or prior experience.

I offer classes for all skill levels, from beginners who want to learn the basics and get to grips with music-making software, to experienced artists and producers looking to refine their skill set and make their music sound unique and professional.

I have worked with artists across a wide range of genres, backgrounds, and ages. Through this experience, I’ve found that the common goal and joy in music is honest self-expression, something I pride myself on encouraging and facilitating, no matter your level of experience or confidence.

The structure and timeline of the classes are flexible and can be tailored to your needs. For beginners, I typically recommend starting with an hour-long session once a week for ten weeks. The goal would be to finish at least two songs or pieces of music by the end of the course. Classes can be conducted in person or online.

I am a classically trained musician. I was a chorister at Cambridge's King's College Choir as a child and received a music scholarship to one of the UK’s top secondary schools, where I studied trumpet, piano, viola, singing, and composition. It was there that I discovered my passion for music production on computers. I also achieved top grades in Music Technology and offer tutoring for Music Technology exams at both GCSE and A-Level. I then went on to study at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, specializing in Electronic and Produced Music, where I graduated with a first-class degree. My studies included modules in popular music production, songwriting, film music composition, acousmatic music, and orchestration, among others.

Since then, I have been working with the charity Key Changes, where I visit psychiatric hospitals and forensic wards to collaborate with patients on music production and songwriting. A large part of this work involves creating instrumentals for rappers, which allowed me to learn how to produce drill and trap music. I’ve also run music production workshops for children aged 8-16 and provided individual tutoring to many young learners.

I have an enhanced DBS check and extensive experience working with children aged 4 and up, including students with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
