As a native English speaker living in Prague, my goal is to offer you high quality English lessons that cater to your individual needs and interests. I am TEFL certified (The Language House, Prague) and have over a year of experience teaching learners from various linguistic backgrounds (from complete beginner to advanced levels), both online and in-person. While I have primarily taught teens and adults, I completed a Young Learners TEFL course which equips me with tools to work with children and younger adolescents. Additionally, I have a BA in Comparative Literature and Philosophy (First class, University of St Andrews), so I am especially qualified to help with any topics related to reading and writing.

About Me

Hi I'm Emerson! I'm originally from San Francisco, California, but have been living abroad in the UK and Europe for the last 5+ year. I studied Comparative Literature and Philosophy at the University of St Andrews, where I graduated with first-class honours and a Principal’s Scholarship.
After my degree, I received a TEFL certificate from an IATQuO accredited course along with a supplementary young-learners certificate, which equipped me to create and teach original curriculum to learners of all ages. Since my certification, I have worked in Prague as an ESL teacher in one-on-one and classroom settings – most recently in an intensive college preparatory course at the Czech University of Life Sciences.
Without empathetic role-models in my education, I never could have ventured so far out of my geographical, cultural, and intellectual comfort zones, and as a teacher/tutor I hope to provide a similarly safe space to foster unique interests in my students.

This class is for anyone interested in the literature of Great Britain and the English speaking world, from beginners to advanced.
The focus is to learn about, analyse and understand key works of English Literature.
It is possible to focus on one highlight (such as Shakespearean, Modern, Medieval) or one part of the world (such as Ireland, America, England).
The class will use the works themselves, such as Dickens, Eliot, or Woolf, and will read and analyse in detail, with set essays and discussions.
