About Me

Hi, my name is Femke. I tutor various subjects at secondary level (including mathematics, physics, biology, economics, Dutch, English) and at primary school level (arithmetic, reading, writing, etc.). I also teach Dutch to non-native speakers.

For many years, I have been tutoring and teaching students of all ages. Now since January 2021, I have been registered with the Chamber of Commerce, so I am an official tutor/teacher.

I also have a lot of experience as a babysitter and as an au pair, so I am used to working with children and I really enjoy helping them to make progress and help them realize how much they are capable of!

Next to that, I also love providing Dutch lessons to adults.

Education

I studied Linguistics at the University of Amsterdam. In this study I learned a lot about first language acquisition (how children learn their mother tongue) and second language acquisition (how people learn a new language).

For my vwo-dimploma I followed a science profile, which is why I also have a lot of experience with, for example, mathematics and physics as taught in secondary school. I really enjoy (teaching) these subjects!

I provide lessons for the Nt2 Staatsexamen and Dutch Nationalisation exam (Inburgering examen)and Business Dutch for ex-pats and people who want to learn everyday Dutch. In the citizenship exam course, students learn about history, geography and basic vocabulary which are the contents of the exam. They learn how to respond to basic questions. Besides preparatory lessons for (Inburgering examen ,citizenship exam ,I teach Business Dutch( Zakelijk Nederlands) to expats. Online lessons are delivered through Google meet and Ms Teams and other online platforms. The lessons are conducted online as well as at a location in The Hague. Both private and group lessons are available.

I offer comprehensive Maths lessons, and since 2018, I have been tutoring 20/40 students on a weekly basis. Additionally, I have been teaching Maths at the International School of The Hague since 2019. I have taken Mathematics classes in primary, middle, and high school in Poland. When studying abroad in the USA I also took a Precalculus class. Studying, now, at Leiden University College I have also completed a Statistics course. I have learned a variety of topics in mathematics, whether it would be fractions, basic multiplications, divisions, graphs, quadratic equations, and many more. During my final year of high school, taking the International Baccalaureate Program and Mathematics Analysis and Approaches Standard Level, I received a 6 on the final exam. I would be able to tutor in preparation for exams, school work, basic comprehension, or better understanding of topics, or if one wants to expand their knowledge beyond what is required at school.

Even though Mathematics can be logical and intuitive, at times it is also very complex and requires a lot of training to comprehend it. I believe teaching through practice is the best way to learn. Repetition is key to learning effectively, this way we may memorize the acquired knowledge for longer and successfully become more comfortable in mathematics.
