My name is Daniela, and I am a cross-over violist from Costa Rica. I moved to the Netherlands in 2020 to pursue my studies at Codarts Conservatory in Rotterdam, where I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Classical Music (Viola). I am currently continuing my journey at Codarts with a Master's degree in Latin Music.

During my time in the Netherlands, I have been part of a wide range of musical projects across different genres — from classical orchestras and chamber music to pop, jazz, and world music collaborations. I've performed with ensembles such as the Jong Metropole and recorded with various pop, jazz, and fusion bands. I am also the bandleader of my own Latin project, La Reunión, and work as a freelance musician with diverse musical groups.

Before moving to the Netherlands, I studied Music Education at the University of Costa Rica and worked for several years as a private teacher. I have experience teaching violin and viola to both children and adults.

About Me
My name is Daniela and I am a cross-over violist from Costa Rica. I moved to the Netherlands in 2020 to do my studies in Classical Music and Latin Music (Viola) at Codarts Conservatory in Rotterdam. I am now at the end of my studies and during these years in the Netherlands I have played in many different projects from different musical styles: classical orchestras and chamber music, pop and jazz orchestras, like the Jong Metropole and have experience playing and recording with different pop, jazz and world music bands. Currently, I am the band-leader of my own latin project called La Reunión, member of a latin band called Las Hienas and working as a freelancer with different musical projects. Before moving to the Netherlands I studied Music Education (Dozent Muziek) in the University of Costa Rica. I worked as an individual teacher for many years back there and I have experience teaching violin and Viola to children and adults.

Semsis. Since 2023, she has been a student at Codarts WMDC (Rotterdam, Netherlands), pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Turkish music-Ottoman violin (teacher: Burak Savas). She has been a member of many orchestras as well as various music ensembles and workshops (music ensemble with A. Liakakis and T. Gouvelis, classical violin with M. Szlezer, experimental violin with F. Siotas, composition and orchestration with V. Papadopoulos, oriental violin with G. Papaioannou, M. Kouloumis, composition and orchestration with C. Erdogan, M. Nasser, Y. Tockan, G. Baktagir, Kudsi Erguner’s ensemble, Greek traditional music with M. Mavroidi, folk orchestra with M. Pappou, etc.) and has performed on some of the most important music stages in the country. She has composed music for dance performances and short films. Additionally, she is a graduate student at the Law School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Her first album, titled "Myrra," with T. Kofodimos, was released in December 2023.

She has taught classical violin at the Pefki Municipal Conservatory, the Athens Conservatory, the Trofonio Conservatory of Livadeia, and has four years of experience teaching private lessons to students of all ages.

My idea:
Each lesson is unique and tailored to the student's needs. We can adjust the lesson according to what each person desires: from classical technique, exercises, and repertoire, to Maqam theory, taqsim, traditional/rebetiko/Ottoman repertoire, and of course, improvisation. My fundamental principle is that technique comes first, but what's important is that musical knowledge is not sterile but enjoyable. I achieve this through a variety of repertoire, a pleasant atmosphere, and especially through group playing, both among ourselves and with other students and musicians.

Warming-up and taking care of our body is part of a musician's life (beginner, amateur or professional) and it is important to prevent injuries and muscle pain. Alongside classical music, I have a specialization in Argentinian tango music. I also have a lot of experience on performing and teaching other music styles such as contemporary, Latin, folk music and pop.

My background

I hold a Master of Music from Codarts Conservatory in Rotterdam. My earlier studies took place in Oulu, Helsinki, and Porvoo (Finland). In addition to teaching, I perform actively across Europe, collaborating with symphony orchestras and chamber music ensembles. I’m also co-founder of The Cosmopolitan String Quartet and Zenanns Duo.
