This class is also for those who simply want to improve their piano skills, going from a beginner to intermediate level. This class has two major focuses: 1. For beginners: main focus on on piano practice, learning new songs with incremental difficulty, and understanding of the music sheet. 2. For intermediates: main focus on intermediate/advanced songs with in depth comprehension of the music sheet. Skills you will acquire: 1. Beginners: you will learn how to play basic piano songs and obtain a basic knowledge of the music sheet. 2. Intermediates: you will learn how to play more complex songs and obtain a more advanced comprehension of the music sheet. Furthermore, you will learn the basis for piano music composition. I want this class to keep students challenged, but absolutely not overwhelmed. So, I will evaluate the few homeworks that I assign after every session and provide constructive feedbacks, in order for you to better learn.

Techniques for arranging and composition, from small groups to big band writing. - Music of the world: Discover music from all around the world, focusing on learning the styles, the history and the tradition of music from West Africa, Cuba, Brazil, Venezuela, Peru. We will focus on the rhythmic aspect of different genres of world music and we will create an understanding of the feel of each different style.

My recommendation for learning the Oud is to start with the study of notes and musical notation before tackling pieces. Although some students prefer to play songs directly, understanding the basics of musical notation allows for faster progress in the long run. If my student feels that they can learn better from another books, I am glad to adapt my teaching strategies to their needs. At the end of the semester every student will perform at the winter and summer concerts held every year and will have the possibility of making a recording session with the material worked during the term. With this, the student will not only be able to see his progress and work, but also will give him a direct experience of performing and working on a live or studio recording session, which is a fundamental part of the developing process of every musician.
