Joining an amateur orchestra is one of the most rewarding things you can do as a violinist but it also asks for skills that solo practice doesn't always prepare you for. In these lessons, I help you feel confident, secure, and comfortable in your section, whether you're about to audition, just joined, or want to keep up with a demanding programme.

What we'll work on:

Learning your parts efficiently — smart practice strategies to master the notes faster
Counting, rhythm, and staying locked in with the beat
Following the conductor and reacting to cues
Tuning and blending within your section
Bowings, section markings, and orchestral conventions
Sight-reading and reading ahead

About Me

I'm Denis, a freelance violinist based in Tilburg and a violin teacher at Studio27. I completed both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in violin at Fontys Academy of the Arts in Tilburg, and I perform regularly with orchestras across the Netherlands — including as concertmaster with the Oosterhouts Symfonie Orkest.

Alongside my performing career, I love teaching. My lessons blend solid technical foundations — posture, bow control, intonation, tone — with the musicality that makes playing genuinely enjoyable. Whether you're picking up the violin for the first time, returning after a break, or preparing for auditions and exams, I tailor each lesson to your goals and pace.

I teach students of all ages and levels, and I speak Portuguese, English, and Dutch, so lessons can run in whichever language you're most comfortable with.

Education

I completed both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in violin performance at Fontys Academy of the Arts in Tilburg. My training covered solo performance, chamber music, and orchestral playing, which I now draw on as an active freelance violinist and teacher.

Violin Lessons — All Ages & Levels

In my lessons, you'll build a strong technical foundation — posture, bow control, intonation, and tone — while developing the musicality that makes playing the violin truly rewarding. Every lesson is tailored to you: your goals, your pace, and the music you want to play.

What we'll cover:

Fundamentals: holding the instrument and bow, producing a clear sound, reading music
Technique: scales, bowing styles, shifting, vibrato, and left-hand agility
Musicianship: rhythm, phrasing, dynamics, and expression
Repertoire: classical, and other styles depending on your interests
Exam, audition, or performance preparation when relevant
Preparation for amateur orchestra — learning your parts, tuning, ensemble skills, and playing confidently in a section

Who it's for:
Complete beginners, returning players, and more advanced students looking to refine their playing. Children and adults are equally welcome. I'm also happy to help musicians preparing to join or perform with an amateur orchestra.

As an active orchestral player myself — including as concertmaster with the Oosterhouts Symfonie Orkest — I can give you practical, first-hand guidance on what orchestral playing really asks of you.

I teach in a relaxed, encouraging way — no pressure, just steady progress and genuine enjoyment. Lessons can be given in English, Dutch, or Portuguese.

My name is Ayse and I am a violin teacher. I completed my Masters in violin at Fontys Hogeschool voor de Kunsten and have 7+ years of teaching experience.

Everyone can learn to play an instrument as long as they have good guidance. I prioritize a methodological approach and building close relationships with my students.

My name is Gabriela, I have 12 years of experience as a performing violinist and started with my teaching practice 3 years ago.

Music is a wonderful way of bringing joy and people together. My goal is to give you the tools to share it with the people around you. In this class you will learn the basics of violin technique such as the correct body posture, violin hold and the grip of the bow. In combination with violin, a introduction to music theory will also be taught! A personalized plan can be made for each student according to their own musical taste, this could range from classical, film, folk, pop music and others.

The violin is a sensitive instrument. To feel closer to the instrument many years of thought and practice are needed. I have made research about how physical modifications can affect performance and also participated in a course for better teaching methods.

I can teach beginners to advanced conservatory students. With beginners, I have an excellent book to start with which will be studied with the other common violin books (such as Suzuki, Schradiek, Kaiser, and so on...).
For amateurs and violin majoring students who might have pain while practicing and discomfort with the violin, I am specialized in finding what the reason for the discomfort/pain is, what modifications can be performed, how to find the most comfortable and efficient posture, and explain all these changes with logical explanations.

In the lesson we start with the basics or if you already have experience, we start where you want to advance. Along with the technical aspects of the violin, I will also teach you music theory and everything you can need to achieve your goal. Hello! My name is Cláudia, and I have been playing the violin since I was seven. I am currently pursuing my Master's degree in Classical Music, and I love to share my knowledge, experiences, and passion for the violin with my students.

My goal is to explore the violin together with you and follow your aspirations with the instrument. Do you want to become a professional and play in an orchestra, or do you want to learn that song you listened to on the radio and can't stop thinking about it? Anything is possible!

OF COURSE IT MAY ALSO BE THAT YOU ARE A LITTLE LESS OF THE CLASSICAL MUSIC AND YOU WANT TO EXPLORE THE POP SCENE, BUT YOU CAN OF COURSE STICK TO THE CLASSICAL MUSIC. EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE

MUSIC IS DIFFERENT FOR EVERYONE, SO THAT'S WHY IT'S CUSTOMIZED.

For children from 2 to 8 years old I use the colorstrings method. This method ensures that the student practices each level equally efficiently and the hearing is stimulated and stimulated to work, in addition to training the reading work. It is a method that can be practiced very easily at home without a teacher.

Want to start playing the violin, work towards a profesional career or learn to play just for fun? Every reason to want to play the violin is a good one, and everyone is welcome to come learn with me!
These violin lessons will be carefully tailored to each student, considering level, goals and availability to practice at home. The lessons will be focused around classical music, but I am always open to help students explore other genres as they wish. Ensemble playing is a very important part of music learning, and I will do everything I can to facilitate an opportunity for students to be able to play music with other people. The lessons will be supplemented with music theory and history, to not only give an ability to play the violin but to also give the student a well rounded understanding and appreciation of the music. Lessons can be in English, Spanish, Norwegian or Dutch.
