My name is Wilma, and I have been playing the cello for most of my life. I am passionate about teaching, and have a lot of experience with it. In my lessons, there is a good balance between technique and musicality. Knowing how to (technically) play the cello is important for being able to express yourself on it, and making beautiful music is the reason we play! I involve my students in the process of investigating problems and experimenting with solutions. This gives people a better understanding of the challenges, and motivates them to engage with those. It is particularly interesting that every person has a different way of learning and different needs, and I enjoy tailoring my approach to each student's personality, requirements and tastes, so she or he can optimally learn. Above all, I love inspiring people, seeing them discover their own aptitude for music and growing as musicians. Playing the cello is a wonderful and fun experience and I heartily welcome anyone who would like to come on this adventure! I teach in Amsterdam on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, in Zaandam in Thursdays, and in Utrecht on Saturdays.

For me, I saw this happening many times during a performance but also in coaching others and it gives me chills every time. Let’s begin your musical journey! Perhaps this is the first time you are playing an instrument? Or you are picking it up having played it years ago. Perhaps you have a dream of where or what you would like to play...or want to improve specific skills to simply enjoy playing more. My aim is to create a path with you (or your child), to discover and develop ways to achieve your own musical goals. I offer 30-minute instrumental lessons – these are aimed at beginner students to build stamina, posture and basic playing techniques. You can combine this with an additional 30 minutes of musicianship, this is for children to build a solid foundation of musical skills –including rhythm, note reading and pitch, composition, tempo and more. Group lessons are possible for beginner players, these can be a fun and motivating way of learning together for students, however these would be regularly reviewed to ensure learning needs of each student are met. I would recommend 60-minute lessons for intermediate student/adult students – this is to work on more complex musical skills, exercises and pieces. Goals for lessons: Making music from day 1 Exploring and refining the craft of playing the instrument Setting reachable goals to build stamina, technique and musicianship Developing ‘inner ear’ with aural exercises Learning musical notation/composition Casual performance opportunities solo or in a group (if desired) Most importantly...having fun! About me... I have worked in instrument music education at schools, academies and privately for the last 12 years, whilst playing professionally as a freelance violin/viola player and conductor with orchestras, musicals and in community music settings in England. I thoroughly enjoy teaching, and base my approach on the needs of the student, using experience in different schools of music teaching - including traditional classical Suzuki and Kodaly principles to more modern day improvisation focussed educators such as Christian Howes and Bobby McFerrin. I’m a native Italian speaker, and I lived in the UK for eight years, where I taught Italian in individual, group, and online lessons. I have supported students preparing for A-Level Italian, professionals working with the Italian market, and people planning to travel or move to Italy. I teach Italian (and English) using the Direct Communicative Method. This means we focus on speaking and understanding Italian in real, everyday situations. Joseph Moruzzi is a saxophonist originally from the United States and is currently residing in the Netherlands. The main focus of Joseph’s work as a musician is on classical and contemporary repertoire, which includes transcriptions of forgotten works, theatrical music, and new compositions written for the saxophone. Joseph has earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York as well as a Master of Music degree from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. As a teacher, I enjoy going through fundamentals when teaching the saxophone, whether that is technique, posture, or musicality. I make sure students are learning technique while playing pieces that they are interested in themselves, having a balance in the lessons. I also enjoy teaching various etudes or repertoire for the saxophone, giving the student a deeper understanding of the saxophone's history and versatility.
