Struggling to find a tutor who truly gets you and how you learn best? Let’s work together to discover strategies that match your interests and help you succeed! Hey! My name is Sophie, and I’m here to help you master French and math with ease and confidence. As an MSc Management and Strategy student at LSE and a graduate of a bilingual Russian-French school, have a deep grasp of these subjects, allowing me to tailor lessons to your unique needs. I’ve had the rewarding experience of teaching extracurricular French classes to middle and high school students at my former school, and I also have experience tutoring math. Whether you're aiming to boost your conversational skills, improve grammar, or strengthen math fundamentals, my blend of subject knowledge and teaching experience will guide you on your journey to success. My tutoring approach prioritizes patience, clarity, and a tailored teaching style that adapts to each student’s unique learning needs—whether in French or math. When tackling complex French grammar, like the distinction between passé composé and imparfait, I simplify concepts into relatable terms. For example, I liken passé composé to a snapshot—capturing completed actions, while imparfait is more like a video, showing ongoing or habitual actions. Using everyday examples like “J’ai fini mes devoirs” (I finished my homework) or “Je lisais chaque soir” (I used to read every evening), I make these tenses practical and easy to understand. In math, I apply the same approach by breaking down complex concepts into manageable steps, layering in theory and real-life applications to build problem-solving skills progressively. My aim is to create a supportive, engaging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, exploring new concepts that are not taught in school, and refining their skills in math or French. Ultimately, I am dedicated to empowering my students to not just pass exams but to communicate confidently in French and tackle math challenges with ease, equipping them with the tools and confidence they need . Let’s embark on this learning journey together!

Trusted teacher: Setswana is a rich, rhythmic language spoken in Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. Belonging to the Bantu family, it closely resembles other languages in the region. I have found learning Setswana through several terrific teachers, thorough textbooks and daily life enriching. Growing up in Botswana, speaking this beautiful and intricate language, or at least making an effort to do so, can transform the way you live in Botswana. I have taught semester-long regular beginners Setswana lessons to children aged 7-12 and adults, with strong emphasis on understanding grammar by breaking it down into “formulas” for how to form tenses and sentences. I teach these and vocabulary through a mix of traditional explanatory lectures, practice exercises and creative games, accompanied by study techniques I have found very useful for learning foreign languages. I have also worked as a trained English tutor, and study linguistics at university, both of which have shaped me to better understand and teach language. Each class will consist of grammar formulas (eg: basic conjugation in the present tense: linking pronoun [for the human noun class group, for example: ke=I, o=you, o=him/her, re=we, le=you plural, ba=they] + “tla” [as in “will”] + verb), some vocabulary words, spoken or written exercises or games to go through together and longer practice exercises to build independent confidence. My teaching materials I use I developed whilst living in Botswana, and have already been used with my aforementioned classes. I hope they can help you too !
