Trusted teacher: HIGH SCHOOL REVIEW CLASSES (Social, Humanities), English, Catalan, Philosophy, Literature, History... AND THAT. More than 20 years giving individual classes and small groups of English, Spanish and Catalan. Academies and online. My name is Javier. I was born in Barcelona... a long time ago. I grew up in this town, but now I live a little far from here. I studied at the University of Barcelona and in Huddersfield (near Shefield, Halifax, Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool,...not far from York: quite nice places and better people), and I have taught Catalan, Spanish, and philosophy. , History and English for a long time... since I was 16 years old. What happened? Very summarized, I promise: two years ago I was walking down the street, right in front of this private school, and I thought: well, you could walk into this place and see. I really like the English language... and the United Kingdom,... but I don't have a poster of the Queen on my bedroom wall. It was a kind of blind date. And there she was: her smile, her diligence, her efficiency. Eva listened to me. And after two weeks he was texting me for a class. "Please, Xavier, can you cover some classes?" So here I am. (That was two and a half years ago, at Academy English Studio where I have been an English teacher for more than two years, until March 13, when the lady in charge literally said that she would transfer my 59 students to another teacher because I didn't have Internet at home, since I had recently moved to another city and had not had time to set up the Internet, and no one could know about that horrible and destructive lockdown). More than 20 years teaching and learning with my students. Online classes. Spanish and Catalan teacher too.

I have been tutoring -Level for 5 months, working with students following the AQA and OCR syllabi, and have spent 3 years providing mock Cambridge Medicine interviews, developing 3 highly realistic question sets based on continuous feedback. My tutoring approach is fundamentally rooted in first-principles thinking - rather than encouraging rote memorisation, I focus on helping students understand the underlying mechanisms and logic behind chemical processes. I use a tablet extensively in my sessions, as scientific concepts are inherently multidimensional, allowing me to create dynamic visual representations and build concept maps that help students see connections between different areas of chemistry. My teaching style is highly interactive, building ideas collaboratively with students and approaching concepts from unconventional angles that often prove more illuminating than traditional methods. What I love most about tutoring is witnessing those "lightbulb moments" when understanding suddenly clicks into place. The feedback I consistently receive highlights how this mechanistic approach creates more engaging and memorable learning experiences than rote learning. I particularly enjoy seeing students develop confidence in their problem-solving abilities and watching them begin to think like scientists. I maintain supportive relationships with my students beyond formal sessions, checking in on their progress and offering encouragement before important exams - these small gestures are crucial for building the confidence that transforms good students into great ones. My goal is to build long-term relationships with students, ideally working with them for 2-3 years to really see their progression and hopefully spark a lasting passion for scientific inquiry. I recently graduated from Cambridge University with a degree in Medical Sciences, achieving a high 2:1, and I'm about to enter clinical school. Previously, I achieved 5 A*s at A-Level in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and my Extended Project Qualification. What I absolutely love about chemistry is its predictive power - the way that understanding electron movement and molecular geometry allows you to predict how reactions will proceed. I'm particularly fascinated by organic chemistry mechanisms, especially those involving carbonyl compounds, and find that once students grasp the fundamental principles of nucleophilic and electrophilic behavior, the entire subject becomes much more intuitive and enjoyable. Beyond academics, I bring diverse experience as a badminton coach, peer mentor, and through various internships, which has taught me to adapt my communication style and find creative ways to explain challenging concepts.

Khalil

I recommend Khalil without a doubt to anyone looking to improve his/her German level in both writing and speaking. He is a very professional, structured and knowledgeable teacher. He was able to immediately evaluate my level of German during the very first lesson and adjust the teaching methodology and materials accordingly. I am truly impressed with his patience and dedication towards teaching the proper German pronunciation with all its complexities and difficulties as well as the proper rules when it comes to grammar and language. We also had lessons using Skype which is also a good option for those who have a limited amount of spare time or are too far apart from the teacher. It is obvious that Khalil loves what he is doing and is willing to put all his effort into his passion. I wholeheartedly recommend Khalil for anyone wanting to learn the language.

Miss Sara is a very good teacher. She has a way to keep my 6 year old daughter engaged and encouraged while increasing her abilities in French. I have seen my daughter improve drastically. She challenges her and she started reading many words in the space of 3 months when she could not before in French. The exercises she gives touches a wide range of topics (syllables, vocabulary, sentance building etc) that has allowed my English speakig daughter to cope well in her French school environment. She started understanding what people say to her in French which is amazing.

Irma is a great teacher. Everything is well organized in each session. We have fun during the class, so learning dutch with her is not boring. She pays extra attention to the pronunciation and corrects me when I'm wrong. This is very helpful to learn the pronunciation correctly from the beginning since changing it later needs much more effort. Irma is also very flexible with timing and content of the course. I am completely happy with my private classes.
