Be(at) the Rhythm - A comprehensive approach to rhythmic training through voice and body-based exercisesTranslate this text using Google Translate.

Be(at) the Rhythm - A comprehensive approach to rhythmic training through voice and body-based exercisesTranslate this text using Google Translate.

While rhythm is a core element of strong musicianship, developing a solid rhythmic foundation through voice and body is sometimes completely overlooked. In particular, the use of voice and body — key to embodiment — is neither automatic nor self-evident as a way to internalize rhythm, and too often reading rhythmic solfège is the only path explored. In these lessons, we will practice rhythm through the understanding and application of Konnakol (South Indian Carnatic rhythmic solfège) alongside other techniques and approaches, in order to conceive of rhythm in different ways and integrate it into performance. We will work on rhythmic freedom and embodiment, internal pulse and timing, subdivisions and grouping, phrasing and patterns displacement, cross-rhythms, odd meters, and different feels. You will come away with new ideas, improve your timing, greater independence in your playing, and obtain a set of tools to practice self-sufficiently. Be(at) the Rhythm is designed for both singers and instrumentalists who want to better embody rhythm, enlarge their vocabulary of rhythmic concepts, and improve overall rhythmic awareness. The lessons will be tailored to each student. I will adapt to your learning pace while keeping you challenged at the same time. You will receive regular feedback, advice, and guidance. [For instrumentalists: I will support you in translating and applying these techniques to your instrument.]

Greek traditional dances in individual and group lessonsTranslate this text using Google Translate.

Hi! My name is Ioannis. I am a professional dancer of Greek traditional dances. My passion for Greek dances started 25 years ago when I was only 5 years old! I have been an active member of the International Dance Council (CID, UNESCO), the official organization for all forms of dance in all countries of the world. I successfully participated in numerous national and international festivals worldwide, with many awards, while I am a certified teacher by Greek Dances Theatre “Dora Stratou”. During my courses, you can learn several dances from all the Greek regions. Together we can learn how to dance in an authentic way, getting to know in depth the Greek heritage. The lessons include the provision of cultural and folklore knowledge for each specific region as well as dance explanation style based on the socio-economical and geological characteristics. The dances options may include: Zempekiko, Ikariotikos, Syrtaki, Pentozali, Xasapiko, Zonaradiko, Tik, Serra, Tsamiko, Syrtos and Ballos. The lessons are tailor-made based on every student’s focusing on every student’s skills and knowledge, always focusing on personal wishes. Together we can build a plan so you can focus on the style of dance you wish! Lessons can be individual but also in groups after discussion (e.g. family, couples, friends).

She is very friendly and fun to dance with. Even if virtually, she is kind, patient and observant. Whatever your style or pace is, she will fit her lessons to that . I wanted to started from the beginning as an adult learner, and it has been a blast learning all the basic hip hop grooves and techniques. Definitely recommend!

Ioannis is a great teacher. We organized a Greek party in our neigbourhood. Everybody was happy to join the sirtaki workshop. Ioannis takes his lesson seriously, but with humor and a big smile. We can heartily recommand him!

Our session with Marta was excellent. She was punctual, beautifully dressed, explained and demonstrated the dance very well and made it fun too. We all loved it and would thoroughly recommend Marta
