Kevin - Brussels£54
Trusted teacher: I am a consultant at the World Bank and a postdoctoral researcher in applied econometrics at the University of Mons in Belgium. PhD in economics from the Free University of Brussels. Between 2018 and 2024, I helped more than 300 students from all over the world* to pass their econometrics courses and/or master's theses. ECONOMETRICS COURSE I help students understand theoretical models (e.g. OLS, Logit, 2SLS, diff-in-diff, time series) and the interpretation of econometric results in a very pedagogical way. I helped 158 of 160 students pass their econometrics courses. MASTER THESES and PROJECTS I help students build the database, write the theoretical model and produce empirical results (descriptive statistics, graphs, tests and regressions) using Stata, R Studio, Gretl, E-views or Jamovi. I also advise on dissertation structure and writing. All the students who have done their theses with me have passed. In addition, 10 of his students have won the best dissertation award. *List of Universities ---------------------------------------------- • Australia: Deakin University, Brisbane Boys College • Belgium: Université libre de Bruxelles, Université Catolique de Louvain, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Université de Liège, ICHEC, Universiteit Ghent, Université de Mons, Université de Namur, College of Europe, VUB Brussels School of Governance, Université du Luxembourg • Denmark: Københavns Universitet • France: Science Po Paris, Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, Université Paris-Val de Marne, Université de Bourgogne, IESEG Paris, Université de Lille, Toulouse School of Economics, Université Paris Nanterre • Germany: Universität Mannheim • Ireland: Trinity College Dublin • Italy: Università Bocconi • Netherlands: Universiteit Maastricht, Technische Universiteit Eindhoven, Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam, Universiteit van Amsterdam • Portugal: Nova School of Business • Switzerland: Université de Genève, Université de Lausanne, Universität Luzern, Haute Ecole La Source, UniDistance Suisse • United Kingdom: Imperial College London, University College London, London School of Economics, University of Cambridge, University of Bristol, University of Oxford, University of Kent, University of Bath, King's College London, University of Sheffield, Durham University, University of Sheffield • United States: Texas Tech University, University of Nevada

Trusted teacher: In these neuro-divergent times, the binary division of "one language or two" in bilinguals is perhaps due some contestation, which students are capable of providing. I have always found bilingual production models (and the ubiquitous Powerpoint slide) that university teachers provide a hindrance because of their lack of explicitness and discussion - they are just not relatable as presented nor do they provide much information or examples for monolingual students. Code-switching, a by-product of bilingualism, is now a term that is even found in minority-ethnic neighbourhood grafitti ("can white people code-switch" a found example). Please note that this is a linguistic term, used for switching between two languages, and not between local or social varieties of English. My personal position is that there is no such thing as bilingualism: there is always a language that suffers attrition, and one language that prevails, mostly because of its prestigious standing over the other language. On the other hand, a child exposed to more than one language cannot be truly monolingual. For this course (very popular at universities around Europe both at undergraduate and postgraduate level) we shall go through the terms used to discuss bilingualism, in detail, and then discuss, with the help of published books and articles, who can be considered bilingual (or are we all, one other language lying dormant?). Can bilingualism be defined by the speaker, instead of the "community"? Can it be imposed by the State? Does a bilingual brain function in the same manner as a monolingual brain? These are research questions that emerge as dissertation or thesis topics both at undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

Rianne

Rianne was a good choice of teacher. She is extremely patient - and goodness knows trying to teach a slow-learner like me requires a great deal of patience!! She is also friendly but firm. She always arrives on time, with classes prepared but isn't inflexible with the learning. For example, If we start to stray away from the book a little and pursue something that helps me understand a point of grammar or get to grips with the pronunciation of a specific phrase, she encourages it. She understands that for me, learning a new language is a real challenge and my confidence is not especially high whilst doing it - and i'm grateful that she sees this, tries to adjust the way she teaches to fit the way that i learn and doesn't show any exasperation! I would recommend Rianne wholeheartedly.

Fleur surpassed expectations! In such a short span of time, she taught my 12-year-old how to draw croquis, conceptualize a collection, draping, and pattern-making. She then helped my daughter bring a dress design to fruition, from visiting a fabric store to select muslin, the right material and trims to sewing the garment to completion. Her patience and kindness every step of the way made my daughter feel comfortable and confident as she learned new skills. Fleur was always on time, very accommodating with her schedule and helped to make our visit in Paris a truly unique and memorable one.
