Trusted teacher: Setswana is a rich, rhythmic language spoken in Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. Belonging to the Bantu family, it closely resembles other languages in the region. I have found learning Setswana through several terrific teachers, thorough textbooks and daily life enriching. Growing up in Botswana, speaking this beautiful and intricate language, or at least making an effort to do so, can transform the way you live in Botswana. I have taught semester-long regular beginners Setswana lessons to children aged 7-12 and adults, with strong emphasis on understanding grammar by breaking it down into “formulas” for how to form tenses and sentences. I teach these and vocabulary through a mix of traditional explanatory lectures, practice exercises and creative games, accompanied by study techniques I have found very useful for learning foreign languages. I have also worked as a trained English tutor, and study linguistics at university, both of which have shaped me to better understand and teach language. Each class will consist of grammar formulas (eg: basic conjugation in the present tense: linking pronoun [for the human noun class group, for example: ke=I, o=you, o=him/her, re=we, le=you plural, ba=they] + “tla” [as in “will”] + verb), some vocabulary words, spoken or written exercises or games to go through together and longer practice exercises to build independent confidence. My teaching materials I use I developed whilst living in Botswana, and have already been used with my aforementioned classes. I hope they can help you too !

Trusted teacher: Hello! I'm Hafsa, a dedicated and passionate tutor from East London, specialising in primary level mathematics. My enthusiasm for math is not just about solving problems but discovering the beauty and logic behind numbers. I love helping children unlock the mysteries of math, making it accessible and enjoyable. My aim is to instill a love for learning in my students, empowering them to approach challenges with confidence and curiosity. Experience and Qualifications I have extensive experience tutoring primary school students in various math topics, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and introductory algebra. I believe that understanding the foundational concepts is crucial, and I am skilled at explaining these concepts in a clear and engaging manner. My previous tutoring roles have equipped me to handle different learning styles and paces, ensuring that each child receives the attention and support they need. I focus on teaching not just the 'how' but the 'why' behind mathematical operations, encouraging students to explore multiple methods for solving problems. This approach helps students find the best strategies that work for them, enhancing their problem-solving skills. Teaching Philosophy and Interaction My teaching philosophy revolves around creating a positive and supportive learning environment. I believe that patience and encouragement are key to helping students overcome their fears of math. I use interactive methods, including hands-on activities, visual aids, and real-life examples, to make abstract concepts more tangible. I enjoy seeing the moment when a student finally "gets it"—that spark of understanding is incredibly rewarding and drives my passion for teaching. I prioritize open communication with both students and parents, offering regular progress updates and being available for questions and concerns. My goal is to build a strong foundation in math that will not only help students succeed in their exams but also build confidence and critical thinking skills that will serve them in all areas of life. I specialize in teaching children aged 5-11, focusing on key math concepts that are crucial at the primary level. My classes cover: Basic Arithmetic: Mastering addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Fractions and Decimals: Understanding parts of a whole and their real-world applications. Introductory Algebra: Grasping the basics of equations and variables. Problem Solving: Learning different strategies to tackle math problems effectively. Exam Syllabus Expertise I am well-versed in the UK National Curriculum, particularly in preparing students for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 I provide comprehensive coverage of the syllabus, including practice with past exam papers and problem-solving techniques. To start, I offer a friendly and engaging introductory session to assess your child's needs and set personalized learning goals. Whether your child needs help with homework, is preparing for exams, or wants to advance their understanding, I'm here to provide expert guidance and support. It covers the basic concepts of programming such as data types, variables, control structures, functions, and file I/O. Participants will learn how to write Python programs, debug code, and design algorithms using Python. The course also introduces the basics of object-oriented programming and the Python libraries used for data manipulation and visualization. <Prerequisites> No prior programming experience is required. However, familiarity with basic computer concepts such as files, folders, and operating systems is recommended. <Learning Objectives> By the end of the course, participants will be able to: * Understand the fundamentals of programming and how it applies to Python * Write Python code for simple applications and automate repetitive tasks * Use control structures such as loops and conditional statements * Create functions to encapsulate code and enable code reuse * Work with Python libraries such as NumPy, Pandas, and Matplotlib * Use object-oriented programming principles to design more complex programs * Debug code and use error-handling techniques <Course Outline> The course is divided into modules that build on each other to provide a comprehensive introduction to Python programming. Each module consists of lectures, demonstrations, hands-on exercises, and quizzes to reinforce learning. Here is an outline of the course: Module 1: Introduction to Python History and Overview of Python Setting up Python environment Writing and running basic Python programs Variables, data types, and operators Module 2: Control Structures Conditional statements and Boolean logic Loops and iteration User input and output Module 3: Functions Writing and calling functions Scope and namespaces Return values and parameters Lambda functions Module 4: File Input and Output Reading and writing files File modes and buffering Handling exceptions and errors Module 5: Object-Oriented Programming Classes and objects Inheritance and polymorphism Data encapsulation and abstraction Special methods and decorators Module 6: Python Libraries Introduction to NumPy, Pandas, and Matplotlib Data manipulation and analysis with Pandas Data visualization with Matplotlib Conclusion This beginner's programming class in Python provides a solid foundation for anyone interested in learning programming and using Python for data analysis, automation, or software development. With hands-on exercises, interactive quizzes, and a comprehensive final project, participants will learn how to write Python code that is efficient, maintainable, and elegant.

Trusted teacher: In these neuro-divergent times, the binary division of "one language or two" in bilinguals is perhaps due some contestation, which students are capable of providing. I have always found bilingual production models (and the ubiquitous Powerpoint slide) that university teachers provide a hindrance because of their lack of explicitness and discussion - they are just not relatable as presented nor do they provide much information or examples for monolingual students. Code-switching, a by-product of bilingualism, is now a term that is even found in minority-ethnic neighbourhood grafitti ("can white people code-switch" a found example). Please note that this is a linguistic term, used for switching between two languages, and not between local or social varieties of English. My personal position is that there is no such thing as bilingualism: there is always a language that suffers attrition, and one language that prevails, mostly because of its prestigious standing over the other language. On the other hand, a child exposed to more than one language cannot be truly monolingual. For this course (very popular at universities around Europe both at undergraduate and postgraduate level) we shall go through the terms used to discuss bilingualism, in detail, and then discuss, with the help of published books and articles, who can be considered bilingual (or are we all, one other language lying dormant?). Can bilingualism be defined by the speaker, instead of the "community"? Can it be imposed by the State? Does a bilingual brain function in the same manner as a monolingual brain? These are research questions that emerge as dissertation or thesis topics both at undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
