I’m a native English speaker from the US and a former international school teacher with over eight years of private tutoring experience in Amsterdam. I teach adults and children, from complete beginners to people who already speak English but want to feel more comfortable using it. I’ve also completed additional training in teaching English as a second language.

I especially enjoy teaching adults. You might want to feel more comfortable speaking with your child’s teachers, meeting new people, making appointments or using English at work. We’ll talk about what you need English for and build our lessons around that, with time for conversation as well as grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and writing.

Having moved countries myself, I understand how tiring it can be to settle somewhere new when everyday conversations take extra effort. Lessons are a place to practise, ask questions and work through things you find difficult without feeling rushed. You’re welcome to bring along an email you need to write, something you’ve heard but didn’t understand, or a situation you’d like to practise for. I’m also happy to share what I’ve learned from living in Amsterdam over the years.

For children and teenagers, I combine English teaching with their schoolwork, helping them develop the language they need to understand lessons, complete assignments and participate in class. I’ve worked with students in Dutch, British and other international schools, and have particular experience supporting children who are new to learning in English. I also specialise in working with students with ADHD and other learning differences.

Before moving to Amsterdam, I taught Grades 1 and 2 at the International School of Choueifat in Dubai. Alongside tutoring, I now work as a writer and editor. I hold a BA from UCLA and an MSc from the University of Amsterdam.

About Me

Hello! I’m an American tutor and former primary school teacher based in Amsterdam. I have over 16 years of tutoring experience, including more than eight years working with students here in Amsterdam.

I’ve taught students attending Dutch, British and other international schools, and work with children, teenagers and adults. I specialise in supporting students with ADHD and other learning differences, and have particular experience helping children who are learning in English as a second language.

One of the things I enjoy most about private tutoring is getting to know a student over time and seeing their confidence grow. Some students need help understanding a subject; others need support getting started, organising their work or feeling comfortable asking questions. I work with each student to understand what they find difficult and what helps them learn.

Before moving to the Netherlands, I spent two years teaching all subjects in Grades 1 and 2 at the International School of Choueifat in Dubai. Having moved between countries myself, I understand the challenges of adjusting to a new school, language and way of doing things.

Alongside tutoring, I work as a writer and editor. I previously worked as a qualitative researcher at the University of Amsterdam, where I continue to give an annual lecture. I also help secondary school and university students with essay planning, academic writing and research, and teach English to adults.

I’m a former primary school teacher with over eight years of private tutoring experience in Amsterdam. I’ve worked with students attending Dutch, British and other international schools, including the British School and ISA, and am familiar with the different curricula and expectations.

I specialise in working with students with ADHD and other learning differences. Alongside teaching the subject, I help with the things that can make schoolwork difficult: getting started, staying focused, organising assignments and knowing what to do when you feel stuck. This might mean breaking work into smaller steps, trying a different explanation or taking a break before coming back to a problem. I take the time to get to know each student and understand what works for them.

I teach maths, English and other primary school subjects, with particular experience supporting children who are learning in English as a second language. Students come to me for different reasons: some need help keeping up at school, some have lost confidence, and others enjoy a subject and want more of a challenge. I want them to feel comfortable asking questions and saying when something doesn’t make sense.

Having moved between countries myself, I also understand how much students have to adjust when they enter a new school system. I can help them work through unfamiliar material and expectations while they settle in.

Before moving to Amsterdam, I taught all subjects in Grades 1 and 2 at a private international school in Dubai. I’m American and a native English speaker, with a BA in Sociology from UCLA and an MSc in Medical Anthropology and Sociology from the University of Amsterdam. I also work as a writer and editor, and support secondary school and university students with essay planning, academic writing and research.

This class is for everyone who wants to improve his/her English and German skills. I do not specifically specialise on tutoring for specific exams (I can obviously do that as well) but I want to offer a class that is customised to the students needs. I always try to teach in a fun and engaging manner with real-life context. People learn best by having a positive attitude towards a subject, therefore, I see it as important to establish a positive rapport with my students and spark their interest in the English and German language.

After five years of teaching at international schools as the homeroom teacher, I understand how the school subjests are organized and the tests SAT, GED, GRE, and GMAT exams are focused.
