Mathematics (aimed towards students in Reception to Year 6)

As a Gap Year Student, I offer a tutoring experience that provides a refreshingly different perspective to that provided by a teacher in the classroom. As the eldest sibling of five, I am confident in my ability to connect with a child. I fundamentally believe that academic achievement is not only represented by top marks but also by a true, deep understanding that allows items of knowledge to become skills, methods and patterns of thought that can be taken further and will benefit a student all of their life. This academic achievement is driven and fundamentally obtained through a passion for and enjoyment of learning. This is what I aim to inspire, represent and deliver in my sessions.

A-Level and GCSE Mathematics can often be rather challenging. There are several complex topics which are often not taught to high standards within a typical school setting, and this can lead to marks lost which may make or break the chance of achieving the top grades. I ensure to teach these sophisticated topics through many different approaches so that the student is well-equipped to tackle any question which they may face and makes it near impossible to not understand a question. I have experience with tutoring at my school, and I have learned how to communicate with students effectively and patiently. Through my “short-cuts”, students will be able to complete challenging questions in less time with ease- putting them at an advantage over their peers.

I am offering classes to supplement pupils' learning in computer science and mathematics. Lessons will be 60 minutes, which include: Teaching the topic, checking pupil's understanding throughout, brief independent work, live marking with pupil, setting homework for next lesson. Pupils can be from Year 7 to Year 13. I also offer programming lessons for pupils who wish to improve their Python or Java programming skills; this will not be restricted to what is usually covered in GCSE and A-level specifications and is only recommended for keen programmers who are willing to work through challenging content!

This course is focused around the AQA syllabus for GCSE Maths students- though it will helpful for any intermediate level student. The classes will use the CGP Exam Practice Workbooks as a guide but will be tailored towards whatever areas or concepts my students need to work on, or are curious to learn more about. Rather than just 'talking at' my students, I want to make sure they are involved- and I believe the best way to do that is working through questions together. I am a recent graduate of the University of Manchester, with a degree in Physics with Philosophy.
