I offer violin/viola lesson for students in any level, and piano lessons for beginners to intermediate level. Students should be older than 5 year old.
Beginners are always welcome, I have studied with so many great teachers all over the world and I am happy to share my experiences with you!

About Me

Fumi was born in Tokyo, Japan. She started studying the piano at the age of 6 and the violin at 10.
Fumi graduated from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music (Geidai, only national music university in Japan) where she obtained her bachelor degree. Later she obtained Master degrees in both Concert and Orchestra at the Haute Ecole de Musique in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Meanwhile she was selected as an academy player of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande in Geneva.
She is currently based in Bern, Switzerland, performing as a member of Sinfonietta de Lausanne and also playing in several professional orchestras both in Japan and Switzerland as substitute violinist.

東京生まれ。慶應義塾女子高等学校を卒業後、東京藝術大学音楽学部器楽科卒業。スイス・ローザンヌ高等音楽院にてコンサート科およびオーケストラ科のマスター・ディプロムを取得。2014年から2015年にかけてスイス・ロマンド管弦楽団のアカデミー生として、シャルル・デュトワ氏とのアメリカツアーを含む多数の演奏会に出演。
現在はスイスに拠点を置き、ローザンヌ・シンフォニエッタのメンバーとして活動する傍ら、アンサンブル金沢やスイス・ロマンド管弦楽団、ベルン交響楽団をはじめとする日本やスイス各地のプロフェッショナル・オーケストラでの客演をしている。

Passionate about Pedagogy, I teach violin since 2013, for all ages and all levels. I graduated from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam (Bachelor and Orchestra Master), and from the Hochschule der Kunste Bern (master in pedagogy).

I like to adapt my pedagogy to different student profiles for them to keep motivation and quickly improve.

I also did many replacements for violin lessons, solfege and musical awakening in various conservatories and schools in France, the Netherlands and in Switzerland and I am teaching solfege in Delémont (EJCM).

💡 I like to approach music as a language. Just as we learn to speak by first listening,
understanding, recognizing, and imitating words before learning to read and write them, I
believe that musical learning should follow a similar path. That’s why I place strong
emphasis on aural development, listening, and internalizing sound before focusing on
notation.

💡 My teaching is based on experience, intuition, and exploration. I aim to create a space where
each student feels free to play, discover, and express themselves, encouraging them to
follow their own curiosity and find personal meaning in music.

💡 I always adapt to the needs and goals of each student. Some come with a clear desire to
study classical repertoire, and in those cases I introduce reading and technical work from the
beginning — but always in a way that connects with the music’s expressive and structural

go hand in hand with solid technical and reading skills. Others want to accompany
themselves while singing, or ask for tools to help them create and develop their own musical

This course is aimed at beginner and intermediate students of classical violin, jazz and contemporary music.

For beginner students:
We cover technical elements such as violin and bow positioning and holding, bow movement, left-hand placement, scales, and positions. We also work on developing ear training and rhythm. We may also introduce basic music theory concepts, such as reading notes.
Finally, we work on learning pieces, according to the student's desires and musical styles.

For intermediate students, here are different approaches depending on their musical styles and desires.

For jazz and improvised music: scales or arpeggios that can be played on a given chord, modes and their use, rhythm, improvisation exercises, phrasing (swing, Latin, funk, etc.), learning jazz standards, how to amplify on stage, etc.

For classical music: scales and arpeggios, technical exercises for the left and right hand, how to put together a piece, musicality and interpretation.
