About Me

I have ended my degree in Translation and Interpreting with five languages! While I studied I also gave private tutors and I discoverd is one of my passions! I love teaching and students are really happy with me, so I decided to move to another country to take a new experience and continue my passion!! :D

My name is Lucy and I live in West Sussex. I am fascinated by languages and communication and I have gained a wealth of experience in teaching and learning French, Spanish and English.

In 2013 I achieved my Level 5 Trinity College London Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). I have have 8 years of classroom and private tutoring experience. My expertise is grammar: I am very skilled in this area having spent a lot of time studying. I have also gained plenty of experience in helping students with their speaking and listening skills. I am qualified to teach adults and teenagers, and have also gained experience in providing foreign primary school children with an introduction to the English language.

In 2017 I graduated with a 2:1 in French and Hispanic studies. In my third year at University I studied and worked abroad in Paris and Madrid. In Paris I was the English teacher of a small private school and I was in charge of designing the curriculum, teaching all the lessons, and creating an end of term assessment. In Madrid I was self employed and privately tutored several students with lessons tailored to their requirements. For example, one student wanted to improve conversation skills for her job as she was required to communicate with clients in the UK, so we focused on business conversation skills in English.

In June 2020 I will qualify as a Secondary Teacher of French and Spanish, teaching up to A level (Key Stage 5). I am currently on a SCITT PGCE course (School Centred Initial Teacher Training) which means I have been in the classroom since September gaining plenty of experience teaching the languages. Before beginning my ITT (Initial Teacher Training) year, I completed a 6 month Subject Knowledge Enhancer which involved studying the different modules of the GCSE and A level syllabuses and preparing a presentation on teaching each module to a class. This course has helped me understand exactly what is expected of the students during Key Stages 4 and 5 and I received excellent feedback on my achievements.

I am an experienced German teacher, who taught for the last 5 years online and 1 to 1 lessons for a language centre (Brighton) The lessons are individually tailored, we will work on all 4 skills: speaking, writing, listening and reading. Lessons will be tailored around your individual language needs.
We work usually with a book from A1 - C1 and then with media (news articles and materials/videos from the internet). Lessons will be a mixture of reading texts and then answering questions or discussing the topic, listening exercises and free speaking. You also can read books (easy reader) or bring your own materials to the lessons. I teach grammar in context with texts, not independently. But students will develop in time a concept of the various elements in a sentence (pronoun, verb, preposition, adjective, noun, adverb etc) and get a clear picture of sentence structure (main and subordinate clauses and placement of verbs). Still, the main focus will be on conversation, students will immerse in the fascinating world of German words and expressions, doing role plays and practicing day to day situations. Developing not only their language skills but also their fantasy and improvisation skills.

Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world. That is why, being so important, we have created an intensive course for you to be able to speak, converse and write without any problem. I am a native Spanish teacher who also can teach the classes in English. You sign up?

I think it's really important to be on the same page, so we can work in the same direction together and it makes things easier. I can adapt easily to different kind of teachings. People are different and they don't always have the same way to learn. I can start from the basics (learning how to pronounce the letters right, feminine and masculine of words, grammar, verbs, etc.) I can only teach oral lessons if is what the person wants. I like working with a lot of examples and visuals.

French tuition either on a 1-1, 1-2 or small group basis - can either follow a school or college curriculum or be completely student-led, working on difficulties or starting to learn the language from scratch, working towards exams or just to achieve personal goals. I use a wide range of materials, from books and websites to audio examples on YouTube, Instagram and other sites. Keeping the language up to date is key to learning so I always prioritise the spoken and written word, focusing on increasing skills and confidence in listening, speaking, reading and writing proficiently in French.
