I am Thijs (30) an experienced drummer and musician, with a wide range of musical interests. Studying jazz drums under the wings of Lander Gyselinck at the KASK/Conservatory in Ghent. In addition, I have followed masterclasses and lessons from/with Joey Baron (US), Kendrick Scott (US), Corey Fonville (US) and Stéphane Galland (BE). I am also active in various bands/groups.

My lessons, depending on the level, focus on both the fundamental building blocks of drumming and music as a whole. These building blocks together with the student's interests form the curriculum, so that it meets the student's wishes as best as possible. I also teach music theory/music theory. Some aspects of this are also offered during drum lessons.

About Me

My name is Thijs and I have been playing drums since I was 5 years old. Starting with drum lessons in the Netherlands not much later has given me a good foundation. My very musical upbringing has provided a broad knowledge of different musical styles. This is still one of the most important pillars in music for me to this day. Be open to researching these different styles, musical traditions and ways of thinking. Besides drums as my main occupation, I am also a DJ/collector, in which this wide range of music is also clearly visible. My heart goes out mainly to music with a strong groove: jazz, soul, hip-hop, afrobeat, funk, breakbeat, but I also have my necessary knowledge about pop and rock styles at the ready. In short, I am someone with an open and inquisitive vision, who is always busy discovering new music.

Education

I am studying a master jazz drums under the supervision of Lander Gyselinck at the KASK/Conservatorium in Ghent. For this I completed a bachelor's degree in Musicology at the University of Amsterdam. Apart from these studies I have followed masterclasses, workshops and private lessons with drummers such as: Kendrick Scott (USA) , Joey Baron (USA), Corey Fonville (USA), Chris Coleman (USA), Lucas van Merwijk, Stéphane Galland, Phillip Lemm.

Folk or classical acoustic guitar.

The teaching philosophy is adapted to the level of each individual, according to the pace of work and motivation.

For example, for beginners: Technique of the plectrum or fingers, coordination and correction of the right and left hand. Learning basic chords, simple themes, simple rhythms, reading tablatures (...).

For intermediaries: development of rhythm, construction of chords, writing of tablatures, basic notions of harmony (...).

My name is Federico and I am a professional and Award Winning saxophone player.
I worked at Koninklijk Conservatorium of Bruxelles as an Assistant Professor of Jeroen Van Herzeele the jazz saxophone professor.
I graduated at Conservatorio G.Martucci of Salerno (Italy) and had both Bachelor and Master with full marks with honors. During the course of my studies i also spent two academic years abroad , one at the Kask and Conservatorium of Ghent with the supervision of Bart Defoort and one at the Koninklijk Conservatorium of Bruxelles with John Ruocco.
In 2017 i won the "Massimo Urbani International Jazz Competition" prize that saw as head of the jury Kurt Rosenwinkel & Fabrizio Bosso.
I play in several Jazz bands and I have been performing all around Europe.
I recorded a solo album called "Right Now" with the famous Italian label "Philology Records" & the album"Supernova" with my own band. I also recorded several albums with different bands and of many styles, from jazz, funk to pop.
I toured with the famous Italian Drummer Tullio De Piscopo (Pino Daniele, Mina, Astor Piazzolla's drummer) and also had the chance to make a variety of television appearances on Italian National Television (Rai1, Rai5, Rai3).
