Bespoke classes designed for students aged 7-11 and 12 plus. Our classes provide a dynamic platform for young writers to explore their creativity, hone their writing skills, and unleash their storytelling potential.

Small group classes offer personalised attention and tailored guidance to support students at every stage of their writing journey. Students receive constructive feedback in every lesson. They learn how to craft compelling narratives and master the art of storytelling.

Our classes provide targeted support for students preparing for entrance exams and also improve performance in GCSE English Language exams. By honing their writing abilities, students will enhance their critical thinking, analytical, and overall academic performance.

English SL and Higher Level for the International Baccalaureate is a rigorous course, especially for ESL students. I completed the IB with HL English and received a 7 (highest mark) in my final exam. I will be able to go over both Standard Level and Higher Level syllabuses for the course specific to the material covered in your school, and prepare you for mock and final exams. I will include essay writing skills, literary criticism and analysis, as well as vocabulary expansion techniques in my teaching. A brief overview of the key features of English SL/HL as set by the International Baccalaureate Organisation:

• Higher level study requires a minimum of 240 class hours, while standard level study requires a minimum of 150 class hours
• Students study 13 works at higher level and 9 works at standard level from a representative selection of literary forms, periods and places
• Students develop the ability to engage in close, detailed analysis of literary works, building understanding of the techniques involved in literary criticism
• The study of literary works in context is emphasised, and through the study of literature in translation the student is challenged to reflect on the role of cultural assumptions in interpretation
• Students are assessed through a combination of formal examination and oral and written coursework.
• The formal examination comprises two essay papers, one requiring the analysis of a passage of unseen literary text, and the other comparative response to a question based on two works studied
• Students also perform an oral activity presenting their analysis of two works studied
• HL students comply with an additional written coursework requirement which consists of writing a 1200 - 1500 word essay on one of the works studied

May and June 2026: In this course, you will learn a range of linguistic methods and learn the terms used for describing a specific aspect of language or phenomenon (lexis, morphemes, and 'telegraphic stage' to give a few examples). The course requires you to explore your own data using quantitative and qualitative analysis (eg: how frequently are slang phrases used? Are there new auxiliaries being created?). No historical linguistics or literature is involved, but language change or specific traits will be sampled via your own data collection (if this is what is demanded in your course).

As many students need to present a "year abroad" dissertation at University level (3rd year in the UK of a Modern Languages or Linguistics Undergraduate course) I can help you to research and structure your year abroad work, both in English (Linguistics) and Romance languages (French, Italian, Spanish). The topics that have arisen from recent discussions with students relate to French Caribbean writing, Italian resistance and reprisals in Rome (Fosse Ardiatine), and Spanish Etica franquista in films (among others).

I have supported dissertation and thesis students from 2005, as well as granting informal help while I was a postgraduate student of Linguistics at UCL (this includes Institute of Education, 2000-2005). In essence, I can offer help because I have gone through this requirement myself (Aix-en-Provence for French BA, Berlin for Linguistics). Former students have requested this support for: Italian, French, Spanish and Linguistics & Phonetics.

Outcomes: BA MFL students have progressed to an MA after their final year of study, or attained Firsts at Cambridge (and proceeded to a career in the City).

As summers are now a challenge, and the dissertations need to be in by September (at least in England) I can help you with both your writing, research and oral exam. The year abroad really comes to an end in August, the worst time to be thinking about writing and research. I cannot change the weather but can make your path to a good degree smoother.

I am a tutor with 7+ years of experience teaching at a variety of levels from primary school to GCSE level. I teach English Language, English Literature, ESOL (English for speakers of other languages), Maths, and Creative Writing. I have taught students both in person and remotely, planning lessons using virtual presentations, activities and resources both in the UK and abroad.

I believe the most successful results come from fostering a friendship with my students, and providing constant encouragement and support in their areas of interest. Lessons start at 1 hour in length, with longer lessons available if required. Lessons are structured according to the needs of the student; this can be working alongside their class syllabus to support them with progress at school, tackling an area or subject they are specifically struggling with, or helping them prepare for national exams such as GCSEs.

I provide feedback after every lesson and detailed progress reports every six months for each student.

I primarily offer online lessons as I have found this works well for me and my students, but in some cases I do teach face-to-face depending on location and availability within London.
