I provide tutoring lessons for anyone studying biology at National 5 or Higher level. I studied biology at both levels in high school and I am now studying a related degree at university. I try my best to cater to every students' needs. Both weekly tutoring and on-off lessons are available. The one-off lessons can be arranged whenever a student feels they need help on specific topics. *Tutoring can also be provided for those studying human biology.

As a Master's student in Biomedical Sciences, I have made it to a substantial level of subject knowledge, and combined with my above par teaching skills, will be able to help students understand several concepts in interdisciplinary sciences spanning the biology field. Anyone struggling with course material, or wanting a taught introduction to a particular subject in Biology, or in need of a little assistance in grasping a specific concept, can all benefit from having sessions with me, not only as an amicable and patient tutor, but also to be a supportive person to learn with. Structure of the plasma membrane The plasma membrane is mainly composed of: Phospholipids: These amphipathic molecules (having both a hydrophilic and a hydrophobic part) are organized into a double lipid layer. This structure gives the membrane its semi-permeable barrier property. Proteins: They are integrated into the lipid bilayer and perform various functions: transport of molecules, reception of signals, cellular recognition, etc. Carbohydrates: Linked to lipids (glycolipids) or proteins (glycoproteins), they play an important role in cell recognition and cellular interactions. Function of the plasma membrane Selective barrier: The plasma membrane allows the selective passage of certain molecules while preventing others. Transport: Membrane proteins provide passive (simple or facilitated diffusion) or active (pumps) transport of molecules across the membrane. Receiving signals: Membrane receptors allow the cell to detect and respond to signals from its environment. Cell recognition: Molecules present on the surface of the membrane allow cells to recognize and interact with each other. Maintenance of homeostasis: The plasma membrane helps maintain a stable intracellular environment by regulating exchanges between the cell and its environment. Properties of the plasma membrane Fluidity: The plasma membrane is not a rigid structure but rather fluid, which allows it to deform and change shape. Asymmetry: The two faces of the plasma membrane have different compositions, which gives the membrane polarity. Plasma membrane models Fluid mosaic model: This model, the most accepted, describes the membrane as a constantly changing mosaic of lipids and proteins.

Biology can be tricky as it contains lots of different components. This can be introduced slowly as I will provide support over lessons teaching you lots of information but a slow and steady pace giving you questions and answers along the way. Homework will also be provided this is to ensure that the lesson has stuck into your head and you have grasped it. If not there is no worries as things can take a while to learn but by the end you will feel a lot less stress about what you may be learning in biology. You may be finding one specific topic in biology hard and we can always go over that in the lesson or we can find stuff to look over in the lessons to keep your brains up to date for upcoming important exams.
