The main focus of my classes is focused on developing fluent and structured communication of the Spanish language either to prepare international exams, to be able to communicate properly in the professional field or to reinforce and maintain prior knowledge of this language. I am a native Spanish speaker from Uruguay, graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University in the USA, and studied communication arts for a year and a half in Thailand. While studying communication arts, I had several public speaking classes, learning techniques of how to speak better using not only our words but also our body to help us speak more naturally, calmly, and without getting nervous if we get stuck or forget what we wanted to say. During my career in the US, I was constantly writing essays for my classes, in addition to having to present projects in front of my teachers and classmates. At the same time, I was working at university and after graduation I worked for a year, mainly having long phone conversations with people from all over the country. These past years I gained invaluable experience in living abroad and communicating using my second language. Now, I help others who are looking to do the same. I help people of all around the world with their Spanish so they can meet their goals. It could be studying abroad, going to live in a Spanish-speaking country, improving your communication in the professional field, or keep practicing so as not to lose your previously acquired level. If what you are looking for is to improve your knowledge of the Spanish language, I will help you. My methodology is simple. Each person is different and I adapt the content of my classes to the needs and interests of my students. We all learn in different ways and at different times. That's why I design my classes individually, focusing more on conversation, speaking, listening, while also helping with reading and grammar. This way we can keep classes entertaining, covering all angles of Spanish learning, and learning this language as a whole.

As a teacher, I always try to focus on what the student is passionate about, while keeping in mind their weaknesses or aversions. When I was a student, the most profound growth I experienced was when I was fully engaged in the act of music making. I want to guide my students along a path to fall in love with music, whatever form that may come in. I know this will be much more valuable than any technique or song I could ever teach them. While I know this is the goal, I am also aware that this won’t happen with every student. Often this process happens further down the line. In those cases I just want them to get the most they can out of music, and enjoy the process of growing as a musician and a person. It is very important to me to teach music to a diverse community of students. This is how I grew up learning music, and it truly is a way of bringing communities together. It has also been my privilege as a teacher to serve many underprivileged communities (as a part of Oakland Summer music, and Oakland Public Conservatory), as I believe everyone deserves access to quality music education. In my private or group lessons, I like to first gauge the students’ listening habits and any music they are listening to. In my experience with younger students, many of them have yet to start listening to music on their own. I try to provide them a space to just listen to music. This way we can work on their technique through music they already enjoy. I will often have them learn songs by ear while also working on some fundamentals such as scales or tonging. We would also work on whatever weaknesses the student may have in their own public music programs or in their other music making. Often that is reading, ear training, or general lack of knowledge. I am always happy to work on these things in a patient but challenging manner. While improvement is the goal, I know first hand that failure is an important and essential part of the learning process.

Yoichi is an amazing pianist. As someone with no experience playing Jazz, I found the first lesson very helpful. He brought lead sheets and explained how Jazz music is performed, walked me through some chord structures and gave me some structure for developing a practice routine. He was also very accommodating about our meeting location. I'm looking forward to future lessons with him.

I started to play the piano again after 15 years. I enjoyed the class with Kristine a lot. She is very kind, patient and funny person. It feels like she is adopting her teaching style to the respective student. I am confident to get up to speed on the piano quickly with her help.
