Edward’s Teaching & Background:

Edward is an accomplished and experienced Violin teacher/ Online tutor, who has been providing violin & theory lesson tuition since the age of 15, to all levels and ages (although more children /young people, ages 3-18), preparing students for ABRSM/TRINITY graded exams, or alternative teaching methodologies like The SUZUKI Method.

As well as any goals, interests of the pupil/ parent, in any genre or style; Classical, Pop, Jazz, Contemporary, Rock, Symphonic Rock, Gospel, Sacred/ Religious . Lessons are likewise conducted online via Skype/Zoom/WhatsApp or any form of connected Video.

Edward also has experience and delivers lessons to children with Learning Difficulties like Autism, or Disabilities like Sensory Disabilities.

Lessons are conducted in Edwards music/ teaching studio with all the appropriate resources; Piano, music stands, other instruments, drawings by his students on the walls, writing resources, giving a positive vibrant music learning environment. Likewise he teaches in the studio to online students.

His first 2 pupils then only aged 16, received Distinctions in Grade 1 and Grade 2 Violin, demonstrating Edward's enthusiasm and dedication in teaching pupils.

Edward has also taught families together (Mum, Dad, Child), and has prepared both parents and child for graded exams.

Edward organises yearly summer concerts for his pupils, giving them the opportunity to experience performing. And just to have a wonderful time in enjoying music, celebrating student achievement.

Edward is Bi- lingual (Native in English and Russian ), he can and does deliver lessons to some pupils in Russian.

He has a deep passion for Film /Cinematic Music, Edward composes and arranges his own versions of Movie soundtracks.

Because of his fascination with Film music, Edward creates his own arrangement versions for his students who might for example want to learn a song from DISNEY’S MULAN or FROZEN.

Apart from teaching, Edward leads a Children’s Orchestra and Choir in London Fenchurch Street. He also worked voluntarily abroad in Uganda, teaching Music & Music Theory in a boarding school.

Teaching Method & Style:
Hi there,
In general I tailor / adjust every lesson to suit individual students; their goals, targets, interests, hobbies, what they do in their daily lives and / or as a family, and in general how the pupil is in character. As well as age, younger ages will require a different approach than with older children, young adults, or adults.

I try to incorporate everything relevant to pupils that could be applied in lessons to provide effective teaching, helping pupils to progress/ reach their full potential. And so there is a genuine growing joy for the student, in playing violin,
practicing, being taught, and attending the weekly lessons. Adapting to each student is fundamental for their music development, health and wellbeing, self confidence and self independence in music.

I prepare all my students for ABRSM / TRINITY graded exams (1-8). This consists of; Pieces, Scales, Aural Training/ Ear training and Sight-Reading. Or the alternative SUZUKI method if the pupil has already previously started it, or desire this approach.

I teach music theory in the lesson that goes in part with practical, usually the last part of the lesson or when the students are tired/lack concentration. All methods/resources are used; the piano, manuscript paper, physical activities to help understanding and the ABRSM Theory app on my IPad.

Whilst there is focus on grades, I tap into the interests /goals / aspirations of pupils. I regularly have students who want to learn a piece for a competition, religious pieces for church services, or just a desire to learn a piece in any genre/ style.

After each lesson, I send parents/students the lesson review/ analysis & homework which they can view in detail. And I am in weekly online contact with parents/ students for any assistance. Online "check-ups" of students via video are conducted to see how weekly progress is going.

I am ( what my students tell me I hope!), funny, fun, patient ,very friendly, easy going, understanding, open, and yet have the balance in being demanding, having very high expectations for every student. I try to make the students feel as comfortable as possible, to be themselves in the lesson.

The majority of my lessons are taught in my music teaching studio, but I am willing to travel an appropriate distance if that is suitable for the student/parent.

I have an enhanced DBS check.

My name is Edward and I am a violin music tutor and have been since the age of 15, teaching violin is my passion, my career and my life. I come from a very musical family, my parents also being instrumental teachers.
Born and raised in England English is my1st language but also speak fluent in Russian ( Eastern European background) and have a basic pronounciation/understanding Ukranian, Moldovan, Romanian

I tutor students from the ages of 3 to adults preparing all my students for violin graded exams grades 1-8 as well any other desires of the parents/student.

My objective is not just to help the students achieve grades but also enjoy learning violin, enjoy coming to weekly lessons, enjoy what they are playing and have a growing sense of delight for music.

That is why every weekly lesson that I have with students I try to make it as interesting, fun, for the pupil whilst still maintaining discipline for musical studies and hard work for the lesson.

As I said although violin grades and graded exams are a fundamental aspect to the students learning, I also adjust to the possible desires of the students or parents i.e a modern piece/song that they might wish to play, student might have a school project, music competition etc.

I am in constant weekly online contact with parents of the students, for any assistance, sending homework/ lesson reviews and weekly online "check-ups" of the students.

As well as conducting yearly summer concerts where all my students come together and have the chance to experience performing.

I am easy going, funny, fun, patient ,very friendly and yet demanding, having very high expectations for every student. But I try to make the students feel comfortable and be themeselves in the lesson.

Piano lessons - music theory and harmony - for any level
I teach for all levels, from children starting from zero to students who want to prepare certifications at the Conservatories, passing through amateurs or simply curious of any age. I firmly believe in the importance of knowing how to read music and this is exactly what I teach first, obviously adapting the method to the age of my students: knowing how to read music is knowing one more language, which, if learned well, won’t ever be forgotten (like riding a bicycle!) and it is an invaluable wealth. Starting from that point I teach the position of the hand, the arm and the whole body at the piano, the fundamentals of the piano technique (giving great importance to the percussive movement of the finger and the distribution of weight), the understanding of musical language, the expression of the personality through the keyboard, the search for touch and knowledge of piano repertoire.

Explore the secrets of the acoustic and electric guitar at any age!
" UNIQUE " What if telling this story with music could be simple, fun and playful? Knowing how to share your inspiration, your feelings, your emotions, all of this through the guitar? This is what I offer you through my course: tune the instrument, work on your first chords and quickly play your first songs; read tablature, discover and master scales and modes to combine them with playing expressions such as hammer-ons, pull-offs, legato; develop your musical ear by exploring the depth of certain styles such as pop, rock, blues, jazz, bossa nova, funk just to name a few. All this will no longer have any secrets for you! Whether you have no experience or a few weeks of practice at hand, we will go step by step, taking into account your level, so that you evolve at your own pace and consistently. But don't forget one thing: the most important thing? Have fun!

Terence
Classes in music theory and practical musicianship
Music theory is the foundation of all playing. You will never find a great musician who isn’t equally as good at playing the instrument as they are and understanding and analysing the piece too. I am a strong believer in making links between what someone is currently playing to what they will learn. If someone’s a beginner then it’s important to look at chords, intervals, key signatures etc.. If you’re a bit further in your playing then we can look at Bach chorales, stereotypical features in genres and styles of music, progressions of ideas throughout music history and more. Finally a person that is very advanced in music may know a lot of theory (by previous lessons or playing experience) and then it’s important to tie in not just advanced concepts in theory but also in history, culture and philosophy of music too. This could be something like deep diving into Charles Mingus’ “Haitian fight song” which uses huge amounts of ideas from Afro-Caribbean folk music, bebop and interpretive jazz. Then looking at the history behind it if oppression, freedom, patriotism and the cultural shift of a former slave nation.

Looking to improve your violin technique or expand your repertoire? Or perhaps you're interested in taking up the violin for the first time? Look no further! Each student is unique and has their own strengths, weaknesses and goals, and guiding them along their path is like solving a different puzzle every time. And I love puzzles! I tailor my teaching to the student, so in a first lesson I like to get to know you a little bit, hear about your ideas, your goals and what your relationship to the instrument is. And then we work from there. As a freelancing concert violinist, my availabilities are subject to change. Please contact me for more information. In-person teaching is essential for beginners, but I also offer online-teaching to more advanced students. I offer lessons in English, French, German and Spanish.
