Elfair works as a professional harpist and is an enthusiastic harp teacher who is happy to teach young children, teenagers and adults. Elfair is committed to her work and takes into account each pupil’s individual needs; she is comfortable working with beginners, intermediate and advanced students. She can teach both lever and pedal harps, music theory and aural training. Elfair prepares students for ABRSM exams, concerts, competitions and auditions.

Elfair completed her Master’s degree with distinction at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, after gaining her BMus degree at the conservatoire with first class honours in 2011 as an ABRSM Scholar. Following successes in major competitions, she is an accomplished musician who has embarked on a professional career as a freelance harpist; including working as an artist for the Live Music Now scheme, Music in Hospitals, and touring with the harp quartet CLOUDS.

In 2014 Elfair was invited to teach at the Tamnak Prathom Harp Centre in Bangkok, Thailand. During the two years Elfair taught in Bangkok, she taught all ages and all abilities, ranging from beginner (children and adults) to university level. She represented the Centre at international events and festivals, including Singapore HarpFest (2015) and The Third International Harp Festival and Youth Competition (2016). Throughout this time, many of her students competed and performed to an exceptionally high level. In the Thailand Festival Elfair was very proud that one of her young students reached the final round of the competition, playing repertoire of Grade 7 standard and above after only 18months of learning the harp. During these events, she has mixed and conversed various teaching methods with some of the most notable harpists in our generation. During her years studying for her Masters at the RNCM, Elfair started her work as deputy harp teacher at the RNCM Junior Department. In June 2013 Elfair took the role of teaching harp, covering maternity leave at three private schools in central Manchester; The Manchester Grammar School, Manchester High School for Girls and Withington Girls’ School.

Elfair is also an experienced piano teacher with pupils successfully passing ABRSM exams.
Elfair has a valid DBS certificate.

If you’re looking for a tutor to help you to learn a new skill/ rediscover playing the violin, or to help students to stay on track while we’re all at home, do get in touch!

If you feel good, you play better!

I like to approach each student individually, because we are all physically and mentally built differently. We all should leave a violin lesson feeling great!

My teachers Mr. Ngai Ho Chau and Mr. Jeffrey Sit Pak Hong, have been my greatest influence when it comes to teaching. I like to approach each student individually, because we are all physically and mentally built differently. Most importantly, we all should leave a violin lesson feeling great!

I have a 100% pass rate and my current sudents achieve a merit and distinction in the ABRSM performance grades1-8!

A little about me:

Born and raised in Hong Kong, my musical journey began at the age of five when I first picked up the violin. With the support of dedicated instructors, I built a strong foundation in technical precision and musical sensitivity, setting the stage for my future achievements.

At the age of eight, I had the privilege of studying under Mr. Ngai Ho-Chau, the former concertmaster of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. His mentorship not only refined my skills but also instilled in me a profound appreciation for musical expression and the value of diligent practice.

Driven by a desire to reach new heights, I earned my LTCL Diploma with Distinction from Trinity London College at eighteen, a milestone reflecting countless hours of dedication. This achievement motivated me to further deepen my understanding of the instrument.

Seeking new perspectives, I pursued advanced studies under the renowned violin maestro Mr. Hwang Wei-Ming at Taiwan SooChow University. There, I immersed myself in the art of violin technique, interpretation, and performance, gaining invaluable experience collaborating with talented musicians.

Over the years, I received scholarships to study violin at Taiwan SooChow University and California Baptist University. These opportunities enriched my musical experiences and allowed me to perform in solo, chamber, and orchestral settings. My journey includes performances with ensembles such as the Hong Kong Metropolitan Youth Orchestra, Hong Kong Pro-Arte Orchestra, Taiwan SooChow University Orchestra, and Taiwan Rong-Shing Chamber Orchestra, among others. These experiences continue to inform my approach to teaching, allowing me to provide my students with practical insights and real-world performance techniques.

Previously, I taught GCSE Music at Hollingworth Academy and provided violin instruction at The Hathershaw College and Radclyffe School, where I developed a holistic and student-centered teaching approach tailored to each learner's unique needs and goals.

Currently, I am dedicated to teaching SEND students at The Peak School, where I strive to create a supportive and calming environment. I often incorporate live violin performances to help my students relax and connect with music on a deeper level. Additionally, I work with private violin students, including young musicians from Manchester High School for Girls and Withington Girls’ School, as well as those preparing for music scholarship auditions at prestigious institutions like London Westminster School.

Recently, I had the pleasure of collaborating with Manchester-based artist Emma for her exhibition, Monton in Bloom. This opportunity allowed me to share my music in a creative and inspiring setting.

Study with award-winning pianist Gema, with individually tailored lessons to help you reach your goals🎹🌟

Graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music specialising in Music Education, Gema is a Spanish/Chinese pianist based in Manchester. She has experience teaching for 6 years to a wide range of students; whether you’re a beginner, young professional, preparing for exams, or just want to learn for fun. She has taught people of ages 2-53, believing it is never too late, or early, to start learning. When teaching children, she makes sure to always communicate with both parents and children so everyone is happy with the lessons. Gema has a wide experience teaching adults and is aware of the difficulties of learning a new skill while working full-time, so she makes sure to take each student’s personal circumstances into consideration when planning lessons. She has also taught three different languages: English, Spanish and Chinese, making her an ideal teacher if you want to improve your language skills while learning piano.

She teaches classical and pop repertoire, both in person and online. She has also taught these genres as a mix, and even adding improvisation and jazz to it.

Gema loves getting to understand her students and tailoring everything to their personal needs, so she always plans in advance and is open for a chat beforehand. She understands every student learns at a different pace, and will accommodate to your own pacing. She does not believe in following one single tutoring book through, and will give you enough resources to learn effectively and holistically, adjusting the learning curve to your needs. She believes in good communication and assertive conversations, so she will always listen to you if you don’t think something is working.
She believes in a reflective and learner-centered approach, so you can be assured that YOU are the priority.

Gema has successfully prepared all her ABRSM students to date and is able to teach Trinity, Rockschool and MTB syllabuses. She is also a piano teacher at a high school where she prepares GCSE students for their solo/ensemble performances.

About her experience as a performer, she has won 20 prizes in competitions and performed in 9 different countries (Spain, UK, France, Netherlands, Latvia, United States, China, Korea and Switzerland). Recently, she won the RNCM Lucy Hale Award and the RNCM Clifford Hartley Award, the latter one for achieving the highest mark at the piano pedagogy course.

To this day Gema is certain that her passion is teaching and helping students unlock their potential. Get in contact to start your journey now!
