Fun Pop Piano for Kids with a BerkleeCollegeMusic Admitted Musician — Ear Training, Chords and Music Theory
From 30 £ /h
I want to help children fall in love with music and enjoy learning the piano. My lessons are for young beginners who want to play songs they like, develop their listening skills and understand what they are playing.
We will explore pop piano, chords, rhythm, basic music theory and reading sheet music. I also teach students how to listen to a short melody, sing it and gradually find the notes on the piano. As they become more comfortable, we can try making up melodies and writing simple music together.
Every child learns differently, so I adjust the pace and activities to their interests and level. My goal is to give them a strong foundation while keeping their curiosity and excitement for music.
I’m Alex, a pianist and composer admitted to Berklee College of Music, with ABRSM Grade 8. I have experience composing orchestral music and writing sheet music, as well as some experience teaching younger children in Hong Kong.
Lessons are available in English, Cantonese and Mandarin. Feel free to contact me for more information!

About Me
Hi, I’m Alex! I’m a pianist and composer based in Markham. I enjoy helping children discover music and learn to play songs they love.
I’m patient and happy to explain things in different ways until they make sense. My approach starts with listening, singing a melody and finding the notes on the piano. From there, we explore chords, reading music and simple creative activities.
I welcome young beginners, including children who have never played before. My goal is to help them feel comfortable trying, making mistakes and learning at their own pace. I can teach in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.

Education
I have been admitted to Berklee College of Music after three years of music study. I hold ABRSM Grade 8 and have passed ABRSM Grade 5 Music Theory. My musical studies include piano, harmony, ear training and composition, with a particular interest in pop music and writing for orchestra.
Experience / Qualifications
I have experience teaching beginner piano to younger children in Hong Kong, including relatives’ children and my three younger siblings. Through these informal lessons, I developed a step-by-step approach to helping children learn to play by ear.
I also compose orchestral music and write sheet music. An original orchestral piece I wrote for my school graduation was performed at the ceremony. My performance experience includes school events and a public performance at The Wanch in Hong Kong.
