As a pianist who has been performing/recording different styles of music for many years, I have developed a wholistic view of the instrument and its role in music. The goal of this course is that my students will build a strong pianistic foundation while playing the styles of music that inspire them the most.

The structure of the lessons will be generally divided to two main parts:

- Fundamentals of piano playing (including various techniques and methods that enhance strong piano skills and habits).

- Working on the music that is most inspiring for my students (including studying written pieces, learning music by ear, composing, improvising, and many other tools).

There’s a lot to be said about how a musician can make a musical instrument ‘speak’ and one of the goals of this course is to help my students find their own unique and authentic way of playing the music they love on the piano.

About Me
I truly believe that music is for everyone and my goal as an educator is to always strive for nurturing the students’ connection to music. Teaching approach may change from one student to another, depending on age, interests, personality, etc... Music is made out of sounds and the space in between them. Unlike instruments where technically the performer can control the length of the notes, the piano only allows a note to ring for as long as the instrument can carry it based on the amount of weight and speed applied to the key by the pianist. However, when a pianist imagines a note sustaining longer than what the physical nature of the instrument is capable of, it affects the entire texture of the music and everything else played around it on the piano. All of a sudden, the piano transforms from a tonal percussion instrument, into a magic box containing any type of instrument imaginable and the sky becomes the limit.
Education
Having received his first piano lessons at the age of six, Israeli native Yaniv graduated from the Thelma-Yellin high school of the arts in Tel Aviv. Upon graduation, he went on to study with gifted Israeli instructors such as Dr. Assaf Zohar, Ms. Hanna Shalgi, and Prof. Benjamin Oren. Masterclasses and lessons in the U.S. and Europe included work with jazz and classical pianists such as Richard Goode, Brad Mehldau and Sonia Rubinsky. In December 2009. Yaniv came to New York to study with pianist Pavlina Dokovska and in the fall of 2010, he moved to Fayetteville AR to study with pianist Jura Margulis in the piano performance program at the University of Arkansas. Yaniv’s work with Jura Margulis included lessons at the Mozarteum Summer Academy in Salzburg Austria. In August of 2013, Yaniv moved to New York City to attend the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music and graduate with a BFA degree.
