Saxophone, percussion or piano lessons for versatile music skills
My name is Torjus and I want to teach your children or yourself piano and saxophone. I am a generalist, more than a specialist, so that way I can teach basics in many areas. We can do techniques, practicing techniques, music theory, ear training, sight reading, playing together. I do mostly classical and rhytmical music and also a little jazz. The lessons are adapted to your skill level, and we will also talk about how you can help yourself get better.
I have a over 10 years of experience with teaching children and youths, but adults are also welcome. If you want to know more about me, check out "About me" further down.
I have only taught kids and youths, but adults are also welcome. Kids up to 10 years: 30 minutes. Youths 10-15 years old: up to 45 minutes. Adolescents/adults 16 and up: from 30 to 60 minutes.
I speak English well, but I can also use French to teach basics, as I am currently learning French on level A2.

About Me
I am a positive, enthusiastic, sociable and kind person who believes that you can do so much more if you just believe that you can! I like getting to know people better, music, tennis, gaming and lots of other things. With me as a teacher, you will get clear goals for your lessons, you will know what you need to do to reach these goals, and I will tell you when you are doing it right! I am a little strict when it comes to practicing, as you will get tremendously better at music and feel the accomplishment much easier if you play outside of the lessons.
I started playing the saxophone 25 years ago and picked up piano a year later and percussion four years later. Today I am a trained teacher, and I am in Montpellier to learn french. I come from Norway, and I really enjoy this beautiful city!

Graduated with a Master's degree in Musical Pedagogy at the HEM in Geneva, I offer private piano lessons for all ages and all levels. For beginners who want to play the classic, we will start with the basics of music theory and reading notes. The music theory will be integrated into the practice of the piano and not separated from it.
For the more advanced, in-depth work on dynamics and interpretation may be interesting.
For non-classics, eager to improvise any music or to be able to reproduce the accompaniment of a beloved song, we will study harmony (always by tapping the keys, rest assured :)). Understanding between tonal and harmonic relationships is the key to improvisation.
However, I remain very open to your wishes and needs and I can easily adapt my teaching according to what is requested.

Piano Lessons in Classical and Contemporary Styles for Beginning-Advanced Levels (ages 6 and up)Welcome to my piano teaching studio! I am a professional pianist offering private piano and theory lessons for students of all levels. As a pianist with over 14 years of teaching experience in Europe and the USA, as well as over 23 years of playing/performing, I enjoy motivating my students with music of their own preferred style and interest, whether that be classical or contemporary. My main goal is to promote a positive experience and love for music-making during the learning process. If the student is interested in a more structured approach, I guide preparation for grades 1-8 of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) piano and music theory exams where my students consistently receive highest marks. I also have successful experience preparing students for conservatory entrance auditions, masterclasses, and competitions in the Europe, the USA, India, and Canada. We have class concerts at Pianos Maene for interested students twice per year. I am happy to provide either a more relaxed or a serious approach to learning piano, we simply need to discuss the personal goals and preferences of each student.
My own studies are as follows: I have obtained two postgraduate performance degrees at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp: "Concertsoloist" in Piano Performance and "Chamber Music” (under the guidance of esteemed professor Sergei Edelmann). Prior to this, I received my Bachelor and Masters degrees in Piano Performance/Music from the University of Minnesota - Minneapolis (with Prof. Lydia Artymiw) and Texas Christian University, Fort Worth (with Dr. Tamas Ungar). My experience includes collaboration with many different instrumentalists and singers, performing as a soloist and collaborative member in several orchestras, and receiving top prizes in several competitions. While maintaining my performance and recording career in Belgium at present, I am developing my private music studio in central Antwerp and look forward to meeting new students.

Classical piano and musicianship: interpretation, practice and performanceThe purpose of this course is to help students develop their musical sensibility as (classical) pianists. Whether it be online or in person-- though in person is preferred, as it makes teaching more engaging--, classes will consist of a play-through of a specific repertoire followed by advice on technique, interpretation and practice methods. The students can bring their own pieces to play or I can provide some myself, and the goal will be to ensure that this is played faithfully with respect to the score, but most importantly, musically, and in this way to rapidly but securely build repertoire.
