Learning ESL or French as a non-native speaker can seem like a daunting task. Fortunately, my style of tutoring incorporates lessons plans with entertaining exercises and activities. Each lesson I establish a cultural objective to give some cultural significance to the information. I also include a grammar and lexical objective which will target key vocabulary and grammar structure common when speaking about specific cultural topics. Each session begins with a warm up to test your memory and present new information, a production to apply the grammar and lexical tools With exercises, and an independent short project to complete at the end.

About Me

I am a native English speaker from the US. I’m currently living in Bologna m, Italy as a graduate student at Johns Hopkins.

Prior to getting my MA, I was an ESL teacher for 4 years ( 2!in France and 1 year in the US) and a French or FLE tutor for one year. I’ve worked with a range of ages from children in primary school, junior high, and high school. In addition, I’ve assisted several adults with conversation lessons in business English.

My name is Chiara, I'm a native Italian speaker, and I work as a freelance translator and interpreter. I have a Master's Degree in Specialised Translation.

I have been teaching Italian, French, Spanish, and English for over eight years to both adults and children.

In 2016/17, I worked as an Italian and Spanish teacher for adults at an Agency of the European Union while I was living in Strasbourg, France. In 2021, I expanded my experience and began working as an English teacher for primary school children of all ages at Educraft Language School in Bologna.

I fluently speak all four languages, and I use them in my everyday life since my clients come from all over Europe.

Of all the work experiences I have had, teaching children is definitely the one that satisfied me the most. I enjoy teaching bilingual children and helping them overcome the challenges that come with having a bilingual brain.
As a freelancer, I am very flexible in terms of working hours and can adapt to the student's needs and requests.

I have more than 5 years of experience when it comes to teaching English as a second language. My introduction to teaching was a volunteering project in a French high school, then it became my profession when I started working in a Hungarian language school. In the school I held business English and everyday English courses for all levels, mostly teaching small groups of adults. Apart from that, I also held private Hungarian and French lessons. Now I am working in a language school in Italy, as well as teaching online because I travel a lot, and working remotely allows me to keep doing what I love, from anywhere in the world.

When you become my student I will ask about your goals, assess your level, and recommend a course book based on your level and needs. In case you would only like to practice communication or wouldn't like to learn from a book, we can also simply talk and occassionally use some worksheets to make the lessons more varied and enjoyable. All my lessons are generally very communicative – I try to stay in the background and correct you when necessary, and guide you through the exercises instead of giving you the answers. From experience I know that real learning happens when you figure things out for yourself, and not when you are passively listening for your teacher's explanations.:)
