About Me

I am a recent University Graduate keen to help students get the best results they can in order to succeed through their schooling career. I have worked in a Grammar School for the past 4 years during the summer, working with New Year 7 students to help ensure a smooth transition from Primary School to Secondary School.

11 Plus Tutoring for students who will be taking the 11 Plus in the Autumn, specialising in both test papers. My goal is to help students feel more confident with their test taking abilities in preparation for the exams as well as ensuring they are comfortable with the information that is covered within the papers, giving them the best chance at achieving the pass mark.

My teaching method is allowing the student to take practice tests in order to assess their strengths and weaknesses, focussing on the areas they struggle with whilst maintaining their strengths in order to improve their marks.

Nothing can boost your grade quite like a well-written essay. It's a brilliant exercise in critical thought, analysis, and comprehension that can help you interpret the world and its media long after graduation. In my classes, I focus on how to most efficiently express yourself, using the following technique:

- Spending the majority of the process on the OUTLINE - knowing what you're going to say is the hard part, so let's knock that out first, the rest is easy!
- Use of vocabulary - advance your speech in order to convey exactly what you want to say.
- How to think critically - I will review with you what you should be looking for when you read, for maximum enjoyment as well as analysis.

Approach to Teaching
– I favor a structured approach. I devise lesson plans in advance of every lesson, catering to the student's specific needs.
– Academic lessons tend to be structured around specific sections of the syllabus, or particular topics that students require help with.
– I employ a seminar-style format. I flesh out ideas with the aid of quotations, other audio-visual resources, and analytical commentary. I structure my lesson plans with a view to providing gaps, in which students are able to ask questions about the content. I am also happy for students to interrupt the flow of the lesson if a burning question arises.
– I use Powerpoint to provide students with a variety of resources and visual stimuli.

Lesson Structure
– Academic lessons tend to be 45 minutes to an hour in length, but I can adapt my teaching schedule to provide students with additional support if needed.
– Typically violin lessons range in length from 30 minutes to an hour, but I am flexible: I am more than happy to devise a lesson structure that caters to a student's requirements.

– I hold an MPhil in Music from the University of Cambridge, where I specialized in Historical Musicology and Musical Aesthetics.

– I have worked as an Assistant Music Teacher, which involved teaching Music A-Level students.

– I have worked as a private violin teacher for 7 years (since I was 17). I have taught a variety of students, from beginners starting their instrumental training to more advanced performers looking to improve their technical facility and performance skills.

I provide A-level and GCSE History tutoring. In classes we will work on strengthening knowledge of the subject as well as practice essay structures/planning and exam technique. Homework will be set when necessary but I will always take into consideration the students' school timetable first. I will happily provide progress reports.
