PhD Candidate in Music at the University of Cambridge teaching Essay and Dissertation Skills

Approach to Teaching
– I favor a structured approach. I devise lesson plans in advance of every lesson, catering to the student's specific needs.
– Academic lessons tend to be structured around specific sections of the syllabus, or particular topics that students require help with.
– I employ a seminar-style format. I flesh out ideas with the aid of quotations, other audio-visual resources, and analytical commentary. I structure my lesson plans with a view to providing gaps, in which students are able to ask questions about the content. I am also happy for students to interrupt the flow of the lesson if a burning question arises.
– I use Powerpoint to provide students with a variety of resources and visual stimuli.

Lesson Structure
– Academic lessons tend to be 45 minutes to an hour in length, but I can adapt my teaching schedule to provide students with additional support if needed.
– Typically violin lessons range in length from 30 minutes to an hour, but I am flexible: I am more than happy to devise a lesson structure that caters to a student's requirements.

Academic Credentials
– I am a candidate for a Ph.D. in Music at the University of Cambridge.
– I hold an MPhil in Music from the University of Cambridge, where I specialized in Historical Musicology and Musical Aesthetics.
– I have a first-class music degree (74.4%) from the University of Manchester, where I won three Hargreaves Prizes for Academic Achievement.
– I have worked as an Assistant Music Teacher, which involved teaching Music A-Level students.

Professional Credentials
– I have worked as a private violin teacher for 7 years (since I was 17). I have taught a variety of students, from beginners starting their instrumental training to more advanced performers looking to improve their technical facility and performance skills.
– I have an extensive portfolio of performing credits on documentary films. Recent highlights include the BAFTA-nominated score for the BBC docuseries on Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein 'House of Maxwell' (BBC2, 2022), and 'Sir Alex Ferguson: Never Give In' (Netflix) (Passion Pictures / Universal Pictures) (2021).
– I have extensive experience as an orchestral musician and chamber music performer. I led the University of Cambridge Experimental Music Ensemble (CUEME) when I was studying for my master's degree at the University of Cambridge. I also led the University of Manchester Chamber Orchestra in the second year of my undergraduate degree at the University of Manchester and premiered a good deal of new music with The Eskandari String Quartet.
– I have performed at the West Road Concert Hall (University of Cambridge), the Lee Tseng Hall (Wolfson College Cambridge), the Buxton International Festival, the Manchester International Festival, and Bridgewater Hall.
– I achieved a distinction (92%) in my ATCL Diploma in violin performance, and a First (78%) in the final violin recital of my undergraduate degree.

Reviews (1)

My first lesson with Daniel was just what I wanted and more. Daniel made me feel very comfortable and let me play some music I had been working on. Then Daniel looked at all aspects of my playing in a thorough manner and signposted plans for future lessons. I was really wanting my technique to be reviewed thoroughly and Daniel did exactly this, in a very supportive and encouraging manner. It was incredible to hear the change to my playing Daniel helped me make within the hour. Looking forward to the next lesson! Many thanks!
Approach to Teaching – I favour a structured approach. I devise lesson plans in advance of every lesson, catered to the student's specific needs. – Violin lessons tend to be carefully planned to focus on specific technical aspects of performance. To train musicality, I often teach this through the use of Kreutzer and Fiorillo etudes, Dont studies, and also pieces of repertoire catered to the student's musical interests and technical requirements. – I am open to considering student repertoire suggestions if they are particularly passionate about a certain piece. Lesson Structure – Typically violin lessons range in length from 30 minutes to an hour, but I am flexible: I am more than happy to devise a lesson structure that caters for a student's requirements. Rico (Ph.D)
Guidance in (scientific) writing and communication.
Like no other, I know how difficult it can be to structure a research or project in a short time. You want to distinguish main issues from side issues and be in the final report to-the-point in communicating the results. From MBO level 2 I went on to a doctorate in astrophysics at the University of Amsterdam. During this path, I have written hundreds of reports, published 6 scientific articles and presented my findings hundreds of times both informally and formally. In addition, I have been a successful thesis supervisor of 3 bachelor students and 1 master's student. My most important contributions, especially (popular)-scientific, can be found on my LinkedIn page at the bottom. I would like to help you get the best out of yourself with the help of my knowledge and experience. However, I do not want to do this with a leadership mentality, but from an advisory mentality in which we can put together as equals a nice end product that we both support. I can offer concrete support for your research/project in: - Setup and planning - Doing literature study - Quality assurance - Presentation and structure/content - Popularizing the topics with catchy texts - Review with a critical look - Give layout and design input - And much more Do you think I can help you or do you want to know more? I would love to hear from you!

Geography, History: Secondary education (private lessons at home or online)
Need help with history? As a civil engineer, 30, I am happy to help you! Learning at your pace and with many examples to clarify the subject matter. I have years of experience in teaching simple and complex subject matter. --- Location: online/at the student's home ---- The lessons follow as follows. First of all, we jointly look for the student's biggest stumbling blocks. These can be related to the subject matter as well as to the study method. From there, I work at the student's pace and encourage them to ask as many questions as possible. I also give them tips and tricks, and improve their working methods where necessary. During the lessons I often care about the subject matter that is more interesting to make and we solve exercises together. In this way I try to optimally prepare the student for his/her test of the exam. However, learning should also be enjoyable. That is why I always strive for a bond with the student through a spontaneous and positive approach. I am also very patient. All this to solve and improve the problems. Are you interested? Learn Armenian language, grammar, literature and history in Western Armenian.
Western Armenian is a language that has been put in the endangered language's list, and I personally believe that such a rich language should never die. I believe that I am taking a huge initiative to be one of the individuals who'll try to save this important language from disappearing. I try to make my lessons as interacting as possible. The lessons and exercises will be provided through PowerPoint presentations. I try to listen to my student in order to prepare the lesson plan together, according to his needs and preferences. I've always been the smiling and friendly tutor who makes the student comfortable during the lessons. I believe that in order to reach the students you need to understand them also emotionally and psychologically.

English University Preparation (including Oxbridge Interviews) and English teaching
I recently graduated from the University of Cambridge with a history degree. My goal is to help students learn English or prepare for Oxbridge Interviews. I have a very clear and simple teaching style and will provide progress reports. I can also assist students applying for any English university. I can give advice on personal statements, answer questions about the application process and help them to prepare for any entry exams.
