Poetry writing course with a passionate multilingual poet

In the modern world, the significance of poetry is overlooked. From Aristotle to Derrida (the range is not comprehensive), literary theory has maintained that a poem's power is measured in its affect. Throughout this course, our goal will not be to make inscrutable poetic analysis - though the first part of the lesson will be spent analysing word choice, meter, line length and spaces of an English poem written between pre-modernism and postmodernism. Rather, through our perusal of poetic form we will be able to ground our work, somewhat modestly, in the English poetic tradition. Before the first class you will send me some of your own work so I know how to build or refine aesthetic temperament. I have been writing poetry for ten years and two years ago I published a chapbook at a press with competitive standards, and I am currently working on a full-length collection. If you wish to take up poetry seriously, time is needed and an eye for detail is essential. I look forward to us broadening our aesthetic sensibilities together.

I can teach you writing techniques or we can work on a writing project. Whether it's a book, blog, fan fiction or thesis, I can help you. Anything is possible. I'm a trained writer and teacher. I have over 10 years of experience in education and have taught creative writing, literature, art history, and other subjects at a small secondary school, where I'm also a team member. I write teaching materials that are used at various secondary and higher education schools. I have extensive experience with innovative teaching methods and one-on-one teaching. I taught Turkish to three people before. A Greek, an Arab and a German learned Turkish with me. They began to read Turkish poems and listen to songs. One of them even gives me song recommendations. You can too. You can learn language step by step. Turkish is a difficult language. I am aware. I'm not going to crush you under the grammatical walls. Step by step, I can prove how easily you can speak a language by speaking, singing, reading poetry. Let's try it.

Poetry is a powerful creative outlet, a deeply rewarding practice, and an avenue to practice the English language at a high conceptual level. For the young or old student who is seeking to read and discuss poetry in English, as well as write and workshop their own creative writing in a structured and positive environment, this is the perfect course. Readings will primarily be selected from contemporary and 20th century American and English poets. This course can be adapted for younger students with skill-appropriate material. About me: I was recognized as an outstanding Yale Student Poet in my graduating year, with my writing put in a chapbook alongside other students. I took multiple poetry writing courses at university and have self-published two zines of my writing, funded by Yale.

I studied Language Sciences and Literature in Paris, where I also did tutoring sessions for students in difficulty. I also studied Game Design and Narrative Design. Being a musician, I write song lyrics for several projects. I have been writing poetry and freelance writing for over 10 years. I am also a content creator for a French-speaking Belgian webzine; Shoot Me Again. My background in literature and linguistics helped me to have a sensitivity to language. I bring a lot of importance to the weight of the words and to the rhythm in my writings. My diverse experience has helped me build a solid background. I can teach poetry, how to write song lyrics, spontaneous writing for the Spoken Word for example but also how to structure an article, a dissertation or any other writing. I am a widely published poet and experienced and knowledgeable teacher willing to give poetry classes at any level, whether you are struggling to write your first poem or are assembling a first collection. My approach is constructive, friendly and approachable. I listen to the needs of my students in our first lesson, and will propose a plan of lessons based on what you hope to achieve. This may include setting prompts, tasks, and exercises, going through your writing, suggesting extra reading, and giving constructive feedback.

This course was originally developed for a Poetry Olympiad to train high school competitors in a crash-course. It has two components: 1. Poetry. The poems are selected for their ease of understanding and complexity of performance. Each poem is read aloud in at least two different readings, with focused training on emphasis, pronunciation, and meaning. 2. Verbal Reasoning Tests. These are commonly used to test English understanding. Each test gives a short paragraph then four statements which can be true, false, or not given. In making your decision and double-checking for what's actually being said (rather than implied) you can learn to effectively understand complex or technical English texts. The course is intended for ten sessions. An initial session will introduce the material and adjust the level of the lessons to your personal needs. Further sessions will include one poem and one verbal reasoning test. Homework between sessions will involve practicing the next poem and reading the next Verbal Reasoning Test (around 200 words).

Welcome to the Spanish Poetry course, a linguistic and literary journey specially designed for adults and young people who wish to immerse themselves in the rich poetic tradition of Spain and deepen their knowledge of peninsular literature. In this course, we will delve into the vast and varied poetic production that has flourished in the Iberian Peninsula over the centuries. From medieval songs to innovative contemporary works, we will explore the voices of the most prominent Spanish poets who have left an indelible mark on the literary history of Spain. Throughout our classes, we will closely analyze the different styles, themes and literary movements that have characterized Spanish poetry over time. From the mystery of the Romancero to the depth of baroque poetry and the passion of modernism, we will immerse ourselves in the many facets of Spanish poetry, discovering how it has evolved and transformed over the centuries. Through readings, discussions and practical exercises, participants will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of Spanish literature and develop their skills of critical analysis and aesthetic appreciation. Additionally, intercultural and linguistic dialogue will be encouraged among students, thus enriching the learning experience and promoting a deeper and broader understanding of Spain's rich literary heritage.

Spoken word is a performing art between poetry and performance, leaving reason behind and discovering your creativity. I would love to teach you how to write poetry and spoken word pieces. First of all, we zoom in on the content: how do you translate your experiences, opinions, stories to paper, how do you go from idea to piece, and which writing techniques help you write? And we mainly get to work with fun assignments. From the content point of view, we then look at performance: how do you recite a piece, and how does it support what you want to say.

I specialise in teaching rap skills and lyric writing. If you enjoy rap music and would like to learn how to improve your technique then I am here to help you! I have many years of experience teaching, performing and recording my own music. I sing, rap, write lyrics and have performed with a band in the past. I can cover different styles including Hip Hop and Grime. We will also cover lyric writing where I can help you with your flows and technique to create your own original material. There is an option to get custom made beats to help you create your own original tracks. I really enjoy teaching and like to make the lessons challenging and fun.

I am an experienced lecturer and tutor in creative writing, including poetry, fiction and non-fiction. I am offering on-going one-to-one online tutorials, which would involve close-readings of your creative work, critical friendship, editing and feedback. In between tutorials, I will set suitable creative writing tasks and share bespoke resources to extend and improve your writing. Alternatively, I can offer a suite of weekly creative writing activities and resources which you can explore independently in your own time before sharing your work-in-progress with me for written editorial feedback. Would you love to write, but don't know where to begin? Perhaps you're already writing or studying English/creative writing, and need a hand? Would you benefit from 1-1, tailored support? I'm a writer and poet, and my experience of tutoring hundreds of people over the past couple of decades has taught me that anyone can write with the right tools, support and encouragement! We all have experiences we can draw on to express ourselves creatively through the written word. Children, young people, and those experiencing challenges often find writing particularly beneficial and enjoyable. I am here to help inspire new and emerging writers by guiding you through the basics of writing, facilitating a deepened enjoyment and understanding of the power of words, and, importantly, supporting you to have confidence in your unique voice. These interactive, informal, and supportive online classes are aimed at students of any age (above 7 years) who wish to write poetry, short stories, or creative prose (such as life writing). This includes beginners who are keen to learn basic writing skills, and those with some experience wishing to develop their practice and learn more, including students of English and creative writing at school, college or outside of formal education. Although we will touch on key grammatical terms, the focus will be on your creative expression through the written word. In these classes, which will be tailored according to age, experience, needs, and areas of interest, students will learn the basics of writing short stories, including flash fiction; poetry, including free verse and traditional forms such as Haiku and sonnets; and creative prose, including life writing or short creative essays. You can attend as many classes as you like, and together, we will build your skills and understanding of creative writing, including identifying the stories you want to tell. The classes will be a mix of presentation, 'warm-up' writing activities, discussion, reading and analysing key texts, main writing activities, and redrafting, editing and proof-reading your work. For those wishing to get published, there will be additional optional support available, such as detailed editing and mentoring advice, as well as hints and tips on developing as a writer. Bring what you need to me, and we will shape the classes together! I hold a recent DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check, and parents or guardians of students under 18 years of age are welcome to meet the tutor first, and/or sit in on the classes.
