I specialise in tutoring KS3/GCSE English for girls. I teach key essay writing and text analysis skills to help students prepare for their exams. I promote an engaging, enthusiastic environment with little homework unless specifically requested (e.g., in the case of a home education establishment) and periodic progress reports if required. I also offer extensive online support for out of official lesson hours. I have over a decade of experience, have a BA Open Degree heavily featuring English and have tutored both individual students and in home educations establishments. My goal is to help students learn in the way that works for them, away from the pressures of the classroom.

About Me

I am a flexible tutor who strongly believes in removing classroom pressures to allow the student to learn in a style that suits them. I apply a range of methods, from worksheets to interactive games to discussion. My goal is to make English fun and accessible to all levels of learning.
I understand that students often have plenty of schoolwork as it is so do my best not to add to the burden. Any 'homework' set will be minimal, often tying in with schoolwork to encourage application of new skills. Extra homework can be arranged upon request if necessary.

Education

I have a 2.1 Bachelor of Arts Open Degree (2014) from the Open University. I was home schooled from Year 7 and achieved high international GCSE grades (A*/A/B).

Experience / Qualifications

I have over a decade of experience in English in one form or another. My degree concerned the study of the English language, the analysis of the influence of literature on society, and a lot of essay writing. I have tutored both individual students and in home educations establishments.

I specialise in tutoring English, Maths and Science for different schools around West Yorkshire area. My goal is to keep students challenged, and not overwhelmed. I assign homework for each student after every lesson and provide them a progress report end of each month to see how far they have come.

The lessons are tailored so each student can achieve their own personal learning goals. I provide TEFL for both young learners and adults, in General English, Business English and IELTS preparation.
Lessons for young learner are done using fun activities and TPR to encourage guided discovery. Mistakes are welcomed as they help young learners to learn and remember. Lessons include reading, listening, writing, grammar, phonics and conversation to build the confidence, vocabulary and proficiency of each learner based on their individual needs.
Classes for adults can be General English, Business English or IELTS preparation and again all of the skills are incorporated, whilst the lessons are individually suited to the desired learning objectives and areas most in need of improvement or support.
Lessons for British students are provided for KS1 and KS2 students, as well as 11+ exam preparation. again lessons are tailored for the individuals needs as well as focussing on topics they enjoy. Lessons for younger learners focus on learning through fun and finding what they need support with and teaching techniques that work for the individual. Again, young learners are reassured that our philosophy is 'mistakes help us learn'.

This class can help improve your child's English grade. Through the use of a baseline test I can initially identify gaps to help improve their foundational skills, which includes grammar, spelling, and vocabulary. Once, these are strengthened we will move onto writing for different genres. Enabling children to develop and adapt their writing style to match different genres. Across all levels we will use different texts to develop their reading and comprehension skills.
