Postgrad student offering tutoring for English Literature and Language GCSEs
From 25 £ /h
The English Literature and English Language GCSEs are considered two of the key GCSEs and are basic requirements for a large number of ALevel abd higher education courses as well as jobs. English has been my passion for years and I would hope to pass on some of that passion to my students, through one to one lessons that can greatly benefit those who struggle in a large classroom environment. I base my lessons on the specific needs of each student and can offer the expertise of someone who has personally sat the new-style GCSE exams.
Lessons are specifically tailored to the individual needs of the student and will involve supporting the student with their understanding of the set texts and course materials. It will also include practical tasks such as analysing unseen literature and answering questions both verbally and in written format.
During the first lesson we will have a discussion to establish what the student wants/needs to get out of our tutoring sessions and what level they are currently at (this may involve some written work or just verbal answers). Lessons will then follow on based on the particular needs of the individual student.
Occasionally I will set some additional written work due in for the next lesson but this will never be more than 40 marks (either as a long written essay or a pair of shorter questions)
Lessons are typically an hour long and are for students aged 11 to 16 (GCSE level included).

About Me
I'm currently studying an MA in Medieval Studies, having graduated with a 2:1 History BA (Hons) from the University of York, during which I wrote my undergrad dissertation on Medieval Icelandic society as seen in Saga and Eddic literature, and Law Codes.
History and English have been my passion for years and I would hope to pass on some of that passion to my students. One to one lessons that can greatly benefit those who struggle in a large classroom environment and can make a large difference between grade outcomes. I base my lessons on the specific needs of each student and can offer the expertise of someone who has personally sat the new-style GCSE exams.
I fully understand that both History and English aren't every student's cup of tea and I am more than happy to change my lesson style and plans as a way to work around the issue to ensure the best possible grades to make sure that each student can move onto their next step and continue with their passions without being hindered by low marks.
Equally I am also happy to help guide high achievers into habits and practices that will put them into the top grade band, which they can carry with them if they continue with the subject.

Experience / Qualifications
I have experience working with young people in my role in the Air Cadets where I provided training to 12-17-year-olds in a voluntary role. I was a member of the organisation for seven years and taught the first class lessons on History of Flight and History of the RAF during my final four years there.

Lessons are specifically tailored to the individual needs of the student and will involve supporting the student with their understanding of course materials and different historical time periods. It will also include practical tasks such as analysing historical sources and answering questions both verbally and in written format, depending on what best suits the individual and their goals/learning style.
I am more than happy to provide tutoring for both exams and coursework.
The first lesson will typically consist of a quick chat to establish what the student hopes to gain from tutoring and what requirements they have to meet to continue onto their next step (e.g needing a 7 to study history at A Level, or getting a particular grade at A Level in order to go to their top choice university). We will also discuss the course content to assess what level the student is currently at. We will then get started with some specific questions or topics.
Further lessons will continue based the specific needs of the student as discussed in the first lesson.
I do occasionally set work (usually due in for the next lesson), but I will never set more than 40 marks worth of work (GCSE)
