I am a fortepianist, harpsichordist, pianist, with over twelve years of teaching experience in Conservatories and Music schools. I have been studying at Paris Conservatoire, the Royal Conservatory of the Hague, Versailles Conservatoire, and at the university. I hold four bachelor's degrees, two academic BAs (musicology/music history, and French literature), and two BMus (pianoforte and harpsichord).

This course is focused on the abilities, needs, the investment and above all the student's wishes so the results can fit to his / her personal aims. The level is so to speak secondary. The repertoire is so vast (and beautiful!) that everyone finds something pleasant to study and play.

The offered methodologies consist of the instrument appreciation, technique, style, musicality and historical contextualisation (reading and use of period treaties) if the student wishes to approach that area.

Hello everyone!
My name is João, piano and harpsichord player.
I started playing the piano at the age of 7 years old and, since then, I completely fell in love with all the keyboard instruments and its possibilities of expressivity, the clear sense of making music, interacting with other musicians, for my own pleasure, and for the others. The harpsichord came in my life when I was 15 years old. I absolutely love Classical and Baroque Music and as well as Jazz and Pop.

I started teaching piano at the age of 20 and I must confess that it became a great passion in my life!
I love to see my students improving, getting acquainted with different music styles and motivated.
I'm skilled in teaching kids and adults, beginners or experienced with the keyboard and/or music theory.

Therefore, I use different methods, according to the student's needs and expectations. Each student is special so a lesson can differ, depending on the student's level. Normally, I start with warming up and technical exercises (posture is very important!), a brief music theory contextualisation of what is going to be approached in the lesson and, most importantly, have fun and provide a nice atmosphere during the lesson.

I've graduated in piano and harpsichord at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in 2007. In 2012 I've graduated in harpsichord at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, obtaining my Master degree at the same institution in 2014. Currently, I'm doing my Ph.D. studies in Performing Arts at Leiden University/Orpheus Instituut Gent. I teach theoretical music studies at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and, eventually, accompany and coach students from the Young Talent Music Department. In 2014 I've founded the Baroque Music Orchestra Le Concert d'Apollon, taking the lead of harpsichord player and music director.

If you are willing to learn how to play the piano or continue your studies, it will be a pleasure for me to show you how learning a keyboard instrument has so much to add in your life. At the age of 9, I started studying piano at the ABRSM and harpsichord at the Conservatório de Música de Porto with Maria de Lourdes Alves and Isabel Calado. In 2014, I graduated from Harpsichord with distinction.
I continue to perfect the harpsichord and basso continuo with Marie Van Rhijn at the regional conservatory of Cergy-Pontoise. At the same time, I study lyric singing with Jean-François Rouchon as countertenor, where I worked with Giselle Fixe and François le roux.
Eligible for the first round of the CNSMDP in 2017, I am currently a scholar and Guildhall Artist masters.
Having this year his M2 I will conduct the Purcell Dido & Aeneas Opera later in November in France.

My lesson is designed for all ages and levels, from the bigginer to the professional. I would like to help my students to facilitate and motivate to find their own musical senses and cretivity, also fluid keyboard technique.

I was very fortunate to study at The Juilliard School, Temple University as a keyboardist, since I studied under a lot of great faculty members and had lots of professional experiences.
I would love to share how I developed myself as a professional musician with my students.

I have taught private piano lessons to students of all ages and abilities since 2010, including teaching for the Salvation Army Art Institution in Philadelphia from 2015 - 2017.

The courses will be based on the student's requirements. The method that I propose is aimed at acquiring an understanding of each musical aspect so that the student can achieve complete autonomy from the point of view of interpretation.

Starting with technical aspects of the instrument (position, flexibility, relaxation) we will address all aspects of interpretation, in particular the fundamental notions of improvisation.

TRAINING:
License in harpsichord at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Prof. Francesco Corti and Master in harpsichord and basso continuo at the CNSMDP with professors Olivier Baumont and Blandine Rannou. In the same establishment I also attended teaching courses. I am a winner of several international competitions.
