Chemistry/ Physics/ Biology/ Maths at secondary level
From 26.9 £ /h
Doctor in solid-state chemistry with experience working at international scientific facilities. I offer private tutoring, tailored to the student's needs, in sciences or maths at secondary level. I aim to develop a deep understanding and confidence in the fundamentals by getting students comfortable with saying wrong answers and asking "stupid" questions (there are no stupid questions!); practicing a problem-solving approach to figuring out an unknown answer; exploring the links across different subjects; and relating topics to real world examples as much as possible. This way, I hope to spark curiosity and get students to take an active role in their own learning.

About Me
Hi, I'm Chloe!
I'm a materials chemist from the UK, with expertise in crystallography. I did maths, physics, chemistry and biology at A-level, have a Master's degree in Chemistry from Durham University, UK and a PhD in developing materials for fuel cells also from Durham. I spent 4 years working at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility in France on an X-ray diffraction beamline, studying everything from cutting-edge batteries to bronze-age coins!
I'd be delighted to teach:
- Chemistry, physics, maths and biology at secondary level
- Physical and inorganic chemistry at undergraduate level
- Crystallography up to a postgraduate level (or to anyone else who is interested!)

Experience / Qualifications
I have lots of experience teaching in an academic context at university level, including:
- teaching/organising intensive workshops for specific software/concepts
- individual tutoring of masters and PhD students through their projects over the course of a year
- laboratory demonstrating to undergraduate students
Besides this, I have spent years preparing and teaching weekly first aid to students at university and pupils at schools in the local Durham area.
I would love to start teaching some younger students at secondary Level as I believe these critical stages are where additional tuition can be transformative.
