About Me

I am a native Chinese, born and educated in China. I have a master’s degree in English Linguistics and Literature. Before I came to the Netherlands, I have been an English University teacher for more than ten years. I speak standard Chinese and have obtained the Certificate for Teachers of Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages. I also have a Certificate of Putonghua (Mandarin) Proficiency Test, Level I-B.

In 2014, I came to work in the Netherlands. I give Chinese language courses to students of different levels, and design one-on-one courses, which are tailor-made to individual students with different needs and requirements. Also, I give cultural workshops, translate all kinds of documents.

I am enthusiastic and dedicated. I like communicating with my students and am delighted to see how they are making progress in their learning. I design various learning activities and use multiply teaching materials to make learning easy and fun. I hope to meet you in our Chinese language classes.

I am a qualified and experienced mathematics tutor. Graduated from the Free University of Brussels in 2011, I started my career by teaching remedial courses in different schools in Brussels. I then specialized in individual academic support by following educational training at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. I have been giving private mathematics lessons daily for over ten years.

The objective is to detect its weak points and understand their origin in order to adapt my courses to its needs. I offer private tutoring in Paris (at the student's home) or remotely (online). My online lessons take place on an interactive whiteboard. This whiteboard is specifically designed to facilitate student/teacher interaction online. Thanks to this teaching tool, my online lessons are just as effective as in-person lessons. This class is about learning Tunisian Arabic to easily interact with Tunisians. Tunisian Arabic is not the first dialect you hear about when you start to learn Arabic, but it is indeed one of the most fascinating and useful, especially if you are working in Tunisia, your partner is Tunisian or you are into North African social studies.
It occurred to you to be told that Tunisian Arabic has no grammatical or syntactic rules because it's not real Arabic? Well, that's not true! My name is Arjen. I tutor and give exam training in math and physics for upper secondary education (Dutch HAVO/VWO, IB, or other similar programmes). As an Aerospace Engineer, I help students not only with solving problems, but especially with understanding the “why” behind the theory.

I start with a short diagnosis: where is the real difficulty? Based on this, I create a personal learning plan that I share with the student. In this way we work in a focused way on those areas where most is to be gained. During the sessions, the focus is on recognizing structure and analyzing problems step by step, so that students become more independent and their confidence gets a boost.

In my explanations, I regularly use examples from technology and engineering. By linking abstract theory to real applications, it becomes clearer where the mathematics or physics comes from and what it is needed for, and things often suddenly “click”.
