With more than 7+ years of experience of teaching privately and in small group, this class will be student interest and motivation driven lessons that covers wide variety of music based on their need. Following are categories that I offer to teach.

About Me

Celine is a guitarist, composer and improviser based in New York. Starting her life in music in South Korea, she has been performing in diverse genres of music including but not limited to r&b, gospel, rock, pop, improvised music etc. Celine has started her career in music as recording artist and performing live, and is currently working on her own projects of her original compositions.

During her time at The New School’s performing arts college, she studied with artists such as Steve Cardenas, Joe Morris, Brian Marsella, Darius Jones and more. She is currently working with Ches Smith and Anna Webber, continuing her study in composition and improvisation.

Celine’s early musical life was heavily influenced in religious music and textural music such as musique concrete and film soundtracks; creating a unique approach to music not only in traditional sense but also as sound itself. Her compositions and improvisational approach reflects these transparently in a way that embraces both atonality, tonality and textural qualities of sound in its rawest form.

Celine's recent work includes her two bands, RedEye and BlackEye, which performed her original compositions; they were performed in venues such as Shapeshifter, Ibeam Brooklyn and more. The group OCTOPI that she co-leads also had it's first performance at The Stone. Celine also performed as a member of ensemble at the Drawing Center.

A Comprehensive Musical Education My teaching fosters strong musical ear, phrasing, rhythm, and analytical skills. Students develop a secure repertoire and acquire an independent practice method. Every six months, I organize student recitals to encourage ensemble playing and four-hand piano sessions in a warm and collaborative environment.

I offer two tracks for piano lessons:
Bee-Thovens - where students learn to read music by composing their own songs and Buzzin' Bees, where we dive right into note reading and exploring the classics.

In my Bee-Strings classes, I take the same approaches with my guitar and ukulele students.

My general music classes - The Bee Hive, for pre-k 3, pre-k4, kindergarten, first and second-grade classes, include playing percussion instruments, singing and movement. We even incorporate the keyboard and ukulele.

Jane has a BA in Piano Performance from Boston University. She is a top piano teacher in Queens, New York with more than 20 years of experience in classical piano, music theory, and composition.
Her studies began at the Music Institute of Chicago, where she studied piano, music theory, and duo piano from an early age. Further pursuing classical studies, she went on to complete her conservatory training at Boston University’s prestigious CFA, earning her BA in Piano Performance, graduating with high honors.

I offer lessons in guitar/bass, piano/keyboard (classical/experimental/pop/jazz), composition/songwriting, production/recording (DAWs, mixing, editing etc). No matter what level we're on, as musicians and artists we're all part of a wonderful and strange ongoing human project, and I believe that it's my duty to share the knowledge and skills that I've accumulated throughout the course of my life and career.

Over the years, my work has branched out in many different stylistic directions but I am firmly rooted in avant-garde/classical music. I hold two degrees in composition: a Master of Music '11 from the Yale School of Music where I also taught undergraduate lessons in composition; and a BA in Music Composition from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, Sweden ('09). I've written large scale works for orchestra, chamber pieces, solo music for a variety of instruments, works with multichannel electronics, and works for theater and dance. For those interested, my recorded work is easily accessible online on a variety of labels and my scores are available from Schott Music New York.

As a pianist, I began formal training at age 6 and worked through much of the classical repertoire before deciding to focus fulltime on composition. I am also an accomplished studio musician, improviser (jazz/free/experimental), and a member of several groups/ensembles.

A firm believer in the use of intuition as a primary tool in music making of all kinds, I would like our lessons to be shaped according to your needs and interests. No matter what level you are on, my goal will always be to offer you exactly what you need at each given step. I treat each student as a unique collaborative effort.

Apart from technical and aesthetic approaches, it is usually very difficult and takes a long time to find one's 'voice' as a performer, writer or producer; this is inevitable except in rare cases, and I will endeavour to teach you to trust in your own abilities, overcome insecurities and doubts, and connect your artistic practice with a more unified mindset that goes beyond imagined technical and stylistic limitations and aesthetic policing. The main point is to eradicate unnecessary obstacles to your creativity and learn to trust your intuition and choices.

As a beginner, we envelope the simple factors that go into making a beautiful piece, and find ways to feel confident within our selves and our playing skills. Starting from scratch and building the foundation of your playing is crucial during this era of learning, and with constant practice, time, and patience, we can overcome any obstacle in music together.

Students in intermediate/advanced classes will have a heavier workload and more commitment to their lessons as well as tasks provided afterwards such as to-do lists and practice logs. These students are to be prepared 100% of the time with preparing their repertoire prior to the lesson, and maintaining their practice log accordingly.
