Maxime
Hey,
My name is Max I am 20 years old and a second-year medical student here in Riga.
I was born and raised in Bavaria in Germany.
The last two years of high school I spent in a Boarding School in Waterford in Ireland. Where I successfully graduated in the summer of 2019.
Then in summer 2020, I moved to Riga where I am currently studying medicine in English.
Teaching languages especially has always been a passion for me.
I find it important to create a space where the student feels comfortable to speak, write and learn without being judged for mistakes. I found it quite challenging when I first moved to Ireland to speak English because I was afraid of making mistakes but that is what stops the whole learning process. In my opinion, the easiest way to learn a language is to speak openly and freely and listen to try to understand more and more and more. I have seen clear improvements with a few Latvian friends who just speak English with me. I don't even teach them just the simple fact that they speak English for a few hours a week makes a huge difference and goes a long way in learning English.
If the goal is to be able to speak and understand English better then casual chats and conversations about interesting topics are all you going to need.
If you want to improve your grade in school a little bit then a bit of grammar would be good, but most of it is learned by speaking and listening.

English is not a hard language to learn, the pronunciation is quite simple and straightforward.
Grammar is a lot easier than Latvian, German, or French.
