About Me

My name is Lauend, and I am a university student pursuing a BSc in Political Science, with a strong academic background in IGCSE and the International Baccalaureate. I tutor IB and IGCSE Economics, English (including ESL), and Politics, and I already have hands-on experience working with students at different levels and with different goals.

As a teacher, I would describe myself as structured, analytical, and student-focused. I do not believe in one-size-fits-all tutoring. Every student thinks, learns, and progresses differently, so I take the time to understand how each student works before tailoring lessons to their specific needs. Some students need clarity and structure, others need confidence, and others need to be challenged more rigorously—I adapt accordingly.

My teaching style is both holistic and exam-aware. This means I focus not only on content, but also on skills: how to structure arguments, how to write clearly and convincingly, how to evaluate rather than describe, and how to think the way examiners expect. Having completed IGCSE and IB myself, I know where students tend to struggle and how small adjustments can lead to significant improvements in grades.

I particularly enjoy working with motivated students who want to improve, whether they are aiming to catch up, consolidate their understanding, or push for top marks. I also enjoy working with ESL students, helping them gain confidence, precision, and fluency while still meeting academic expectations.

Above all, I aim to create a learning environment that is calm, supportive, and effective. Lessons are focused, clear, and purposeful but never intimidating. My goal is for students to leave each session understanding why something works, not just what the answer is.

A qualified language coach with 25 years of experience offers intensive Dutch lessons in a small class or online.

I give many Dutch NT2 lessons to expats and in preparation for an integration exam.
Specialized in guiding for the State Exam I and II. Special exam coach.

In January 2025 I will also start with groups again. We have a great classroom in the center of Rotterdam, near metro station Beurs, lessons with small homogeneous groups (little difference in level).

We mainly go for quality and not just running a lesson. I am really involved in the progress of the student. In addition to teaching, I want to do everything to really motivate students to take the next step. That is my strength!

You can also choose the online lesson package with Whereby, Teams or Zoom in a comfortable way. Online classes are one-on-one or maximum one-on-two, for better results.

My English is fluent, as well as Portuguese and Spanish. I understand the difficulties of overcoming barriers for Latin languages and for expats in general, as I have also been an expat.

Online lessons last 75 minutes once a week for 10 weeks to reach a higher level.

This is the normal speed. Including exam training (A-2 or Staatsexamen) and exam at the end.

Intensive training ? That can also be done in five to ten full days, I am used to giving these very intensive trainings to CEOs or managers who want it faster and more intensive ... all lessons within 3 or 4 weeks. Based on the European system A-1, A-2, B-1, B-2 and C-1

As soon as students want to further improve their knowledge of Dutch, I always advise and coach them to take the State Exam I or II, the only formal Certificate in this country, recognized by employers and universities.

I will try to switch to conversation after a few lessons, to put your knowledge into practice as soon as possible. Don't get too caught up in the grammar.

Teaching is my ultimate passion and even after 25 years it feels like the first time and students always feel inspired to overcome the obstacles.

I also teach you about Dutch social culture, which is intertwined in the course and is strongly related to the language.

I realized that taking the International Baccalaureate Programme (IB) during High School, not only prepared me for university but also equipped me with research and analysis skills, allowing me to be a better professional in the future. Nevertheless, I am aware that this programme is also extremely challenging, and most students, just as I did, need some guidance throughout the process. Here, I may come in to help you.
